My wife's boss just moved here from Toronto. Her company is downsizing, and her boss is a likely candidate to be terminated among others.

These types of moves are unpleasant and cause a stir, but they happen in business and that's what the Flames are running.

Might be a reputational hit, but I think you can mitigate that damage with communication and including him in the process.

Kadri is also the number one centre on a team that has putrid centre depth currently. Combine this with the fact he wants to be here, has a full NMC, moved his family here and plays hard and is a good role model and it's not a giant shock that management can see the value in keeping him.

What are the corners they are cutting? Are there any examples of Craig cutting corners?

For a franchise that seems to have guy opt out, is on most NTC lists (as most all canadian teams are), or has had stars choose to move on it's kinda funny to see some fans vociferously demanding a legit top 6 and best centre on the team guy who not only is adamant he wants to be here but moved his whole family here and has had it reported from multiple places doesn't want to go to get shipped out. That grass must always be greener eh?

Tkachuk and Gaudreau made moves that hurt this franchise but were best for them. Flames need to do the same, they will trade him before his contract is up and I bet he is gone in the next 2 years. Nothing wrong with approaching him early.

It’s Edwards mo. Conroy do far has held steady. Hopefully he is allowed to see it through before he gets the orders from upstairs to move picks and prospects.

Player signed here by choice as a UFA, is outperforming his contract, and states repeatedly that he wants to stay here.

"TRADE HIM RIGHT EFFING NOW!"

Marner should sign here, we are just so nice and I'm sure that will play a part in his decision.

probably picks Vegas, as cutthroat as they get.

We will not win a cup before Kadri retires. If Iggy can be traded, so can Kadri.

And he may yet be traded at some point. In fact, I would bet on it.

But that doesn't justify the outrage, and claims that the Flames are mis-managing things, simply because he wasn't traded yesterday.

Best part is I'm pretty sure the Flames had to outbid teams to get him as Calgary was not his 1st choice. This isn't a Ference scenario where he took a discount and Sutter traded after saying he wouldn't.

If the rumor is true of that return, it should have at least deserved a check in on if he wants to move.

Based on what?

Yes, he wanted to stay in Colorado - most players prefer to stay where they are as opposed to move. Beyond that, can you supply a list of his preferences?

By all accounts the only team the Flames outbid FWIW was the Islanders

Is Edwards the one telling Tre to move out picks and prospects in Toronto? Maybe it was the GM and not the owner?

You understand Conroy is at the rink every day, right? What do you think the chances are that he has never spoken to Kadri about it? (hint: zero)

Yes, I know Royle9 said they didn't bring the trade to him, but the most likely reason for that is Conroy was already 100% certain of the answer. (Also, Royle9's comment is not proof that Conroy didn't, it is simply passing on - and re-stating with different words - 2nd hand information).

And just because the Flames outbid them, does not mean he preferred the Islanders (seriously - no one prefers the Islanders)

First off...if they're willing to do that with your wife's boss...chances are that this person is a lot easier to replace than a guy whos one of the top 50 centers the most important position in the best league in the world.

Regarding the quoted part...isn't this the knock on the Flames and why they're a middle team? Trying to sell tickets to fill the area and get 3 home playoff games? Rather than try and win, they try and make enough money to cover coats with some profit? They operate like a business and not some rich guys hobby.

No but they probably told him to accelerate things on the back of a 1 off playoff appearance. Same marching orders to Sutter.

I can obviously understand if Kadri was on the Avs or Panthers or some contender that they keep him and his winning attitude at all costs. But we are far from being anywhere close to a contender. We should we building towards the future.
Guys, here it is! Rhett has it all figured out.
