Tarred and feathered? In his 20s, single Mike Johnson “adopted” a 14 year old boy.

Q: The president said that if he were Tom Homan he would arrest Gavin Newsom. Do you believe Newsom should face consequences in a legal way?
MIKE JOHNSON: Um, that's not my lane. I'm not gonna give you legal analysis on whether Gavin Newsom should be arrested. But he ought to be tar and feathered.
In the before time that weasely little turd was a constitutional lawyer. Now, having removed whatever semblance of a spine he had, thinks tar and feathers is a good response.

I just don't see how the US stops this, the future is pretty evident.
There are too many people on the right that are happy to talk about ignoring the rule of law, and violating the constitution. They are talking about killing their democratically elected opponents. Where has this happened before?
There are only really two quetsions:
1. How violent will it get? My take is probably not much. The US doesn't seem like a country with citizens that are willing to endure much 'pain' for their freedom.
2. How long until a democracy returns?
I was talking with my kids about this today. I don't know if DJT Jr will be able to continue the legacy, and there are a lot of other vultures in the party.
Looking at other authoritarian states:
- Chile was about 20 years
- Argentina less than 10.
- Spain was 36 years.
- China has been 75 years.
- I think you could say Russia has been that centuries, from Csarist to Communist to Putin.
Anyways, depressing times.

With these protests starting to spread to other cities, at least it looks like American citizens are finally starting to wake up to what's happening to their country. A little too late unfortunately, as U.S. democracy is pretty much eradicated at this point. But it's still good to see people fighting back and making their voices heard.
Sadly I'm just not sure it's gonna make much a difference if they're having to go up against National Guard troops and Marines.

Americans are a funny bunch.
Rewind to summer 2024 with the French protests - all Americans are like, see why couldn't we be more like them? Why don't Americans care enough to protest? Stand up to the authorities!
Fast forward to today and you have the right wing going bat#### crazy saying these protesters are insurrectionists!! Bring in the military!
LOL it's United States of Amnesia.

What??? Omg.
I used to work for the USPS; there was a very upscale/expensive independent living facility on my route. It was used as a location for the movie “In Her Shoes”, with Cameron Diaz and Shirley McClaine.
Anyway, an older guy, Tom Lawrence, lived there with John Lawrence, who I assumed was his son. Nope. It was well known in the community that they were a gay couple, but Tom “adopted” John when John was 13.
John is one if the sweetest people I’ve ever met. We became friends. He started confiding in me (Tom didn’t see me as a threat of any kind, I was just the mail lady) and was often in tears with his grooming stories. He feels powerless to leave. It is sooooo sad.
And yes, they are MAGA.

I don't think this is the case.
The protests are in defense of undocumented migrants. There is a sliver of America beyond that particular group who is willing to show up and protest (at least during the day). Looking at the footage, it appears to be in the hundreds despite the headlines saying it's "thousands".
Then nightfall arrives, and it turns into a few dozen donkeys who couldn't care less about protest and mostly just want to chuck fireworks at cops. The right wing gets all the footage they like for Fox news, and Dotard gets to take shots at blue states and cities. Half the country thinks LA is burning to the ground. It's not.
The vast majority of Americans are way more interested in their weekend plans than heading down to defend the rights of undocumented people. The attitude may be that "cops suck", but they certainly aren't going to go get in their grill.
There's simply too much quality television for there to be a civil war.

Yeah. All this clickbait about Trump melting down, Trump in fear, Trump humiliated , blah blah blah. He’s a jerk, deteriorating quickly. But in terms of what he wants to accomplish he’s doing just fine,

This is a really good 6 episode podcast: Edie Falco, John Turturo., Tony Shalhoub. Scary stuff.

This is adapted by Richard Dresser from his 2020 book of the same name. Like they say, it’s a documentary from the future.
