The Embassy was my go to stop particularly for retro night
They had a great rooftop patio but the best spot was the basement which was like a great house party
Loved that place

Since were going back you might know?, for the life of me I can't remember the name of the Bar I think was around 3rd ave and 6th or 7th st SW that was very popular in the early 90's, the shat that went on there would send people to jail these days.

Love that the geriatric demographic of CP brought out the statement "Bit younger than some of you but I loved the Embassy". A bar whose only remaining imprint on the internet that remembers everything is a map quest link from the late 2000's over 15 years ago. .

Median age of Canadians is 40.6. Someone who was 20 years old 15 years ago is still pretty young.

French Maid was at 4th Street. He might be thinking of the dive bar that was at 7th Street where they had a lot of indie rock bands. I don't remember the name of the place though but they moved from 3rd Ave/7 St to 5th Ave/8th Street later on and I don't know what happened after that.

Edit: finally remember the name, it was The Distillery.

No. The building still houses their admin and ops but the actual museum has moved to an online venture; with some travelling exhibits.

Very sad because that place was the best.

I had a couple eyebrow-raising experiences there. One involving a lawyer and her boy-toy, and another a bachelorette party.

It's been a lot of places. Senor Frogs (which I don't remember as I might have been too young), The Distillery, a Vietnamese restaurant (I don't know if that is what Sole Luna was), there was some other restaurant there as well with pool tables because I remember watching Flames game after work. My office was just up the street beside McDougall Centre.

After years and years of construction it looks like the new Eau Claire plaza will be opened to the public shortly. The big jersey barriers and solid fencing are down, and it is now some light fencing cordoning it off.

Speaking of construction, this Sunnyside stuff is a real pain. Is Sunnyside even worth protecting? Maybe we just let nature take it back.

Imagine an inner Calgary inland lake with super cool snorkelling and scuba opportunities? I think we do it. Patios surrounding the Sunnyside lake. A little par 3 golf course to really piss off the locals. A little estuary (doubt that is the right term), cliff jumping.

I sat at a table with the bachelorette party for most of the night, and the shots flowed freely. Hints were dropped about this being the bride-to-be’s last free night, but they couldn’t overcome my respect for the sanctity of (near)marriage.

Like Snuffleupagus said, even by the standards of early 90s Calgary, the vibe at Senor Frogs was… unrestrained.
