I used to frequent Subway on semi-regular occasion.

Few years back got a standard 12” sub with the cookies/fountain drink combo.

They had one of those touch screen tip screens with a minimum 15% button and no obvious way to bypass (I used to always tip 1.00 on my subway purchases when you had to punch it in).

Total came to over $20. The boycott started. I’ve never been back and don’t think I ever will.

I’ve never seen a tip button you couldn’t circumvent. Odd.

Really? I have. Its really annoying.

I've even had clients ask me why my POS machine doesn't have a tip function. Well...it does. I just disabled it because I feel its embarrassing and I own the goddamned thing and can do what I want.

You want to throw me a few bucks because you feel I did a really awesome job? Cool. But that is entirely at your discretion. I'm not going to prompt you to do it.

Both my wife and I were down for the count today (I'm recovering from a vasectomy and she sprained her ankle) so we thought we would spoil the kids with McDonald's off Skip. For the 5 of us it came to 98$!! God damn, what a waste of money.

I guess 15$ was 20pc nuggets for lunches tomorrow...still 83$ for 5 meals is insane.

Clearly you should stop having kids!

I travel a ton for work, so sadly have to resort to fast food often. I've discovered that if you are paying full price, you aren't doing it right. Install the apps, tons of offers and discounts out there. If one doesn't have one going on that week, another will. I paid I think $20 to get 50% off any sub every day for June at Subway. Plus you get rewards and get free items. Already paid for itself.

Bonus part is when ordering in the app for pickup, don't get guilted for a tip.

So I now drink Metamucil once a day, I absolutely need it with how much protein I’ve been eating. No BM issues since drinking it regularily, what a nice change.

Firehouse Subs has been a pleasant alternative to Subway.

The Calgary Italian Bakery in the SE is a hidden gem for sandwiches.

A baloney sandwich at the DropIn is a pleasant alternative to Subway. Kidding, of course, but I’ve heard good things about Firehouse.

I rarely buy sandwiches outside the home. I don’t think I’ve gone to a Subway in a decade (their bread is awful). But when I worked in the area, I'd hit up the Italian Bakery. Good ingredients and great value.

Mr. Sub >>>> Subway >>>>>>>>> Tim Hortons (anything)

Subway was on my boycott list for at least 5 years but its a lot better then it was a few years back. Still no good compared to Mr Sub.

Tim's is on my permanent boycott list, instant 'bad tummy day' every single time. Haven't eaten there is years. Wouldn't eat it for free.

I worked at Subway for a few months as a teenager and I’m still grossed out by the smell of one. The opposite affect they’re going for. I doubt I’d be grossed out by the smell of a normal bakery. Subway is weird.

Firehouse Subs is to subway what Boogie's Burgers is to A&W. Not really comparable.

Also, Tim's lunch sandwiches are terrible but their breakfast sandwiches are good.

I like Tim’s breakfast wraps and I don’t mind a black dark roast with no sugar.

Their breakfast sandwiches are finally not bad. Took them years to get it right.

They used to make some on a biscuit that was actually good, but the outside was dusted with flour or something and it gave it a really bad aftertaste.
