It was a once in a career (most don't even get close to that) run last year when he had those near no hitters and overall heater for a few weeks.
Francis wasn't any good before that and isn't much good after that. This is who he is.
The inevitable media attention coming into this year probably didn't help, as if he was to be the SP saviour, but he just isn't very good and was overhyped coming into the year as a result.
But he will have those memories and stats line for a months in 2024 to look back on, which is more than most major league pitchers can look back on.

The ####ty thing is. It really looked like Francis was somebody after the second half last season. But he's a total sieve. Tough to have any consistency with only 3 starters.
I'd like to see the bats get some runs tonight, even if it's a losing effort, gotta keep up that good mojo.

I read that he threw 40 pitches today, I think he felt ok.

That's gotta feel good for Schneider.
I'll never regret my Schneider jersey purchase because of the season of Babe. But it really would be nice for him to carve out a career. Such a good dude.

Man, sucks that Francis is ass again. He looked like found money last year and a solid mid rotation starter going forward. Or at least a solid back end starter. It's almost time to send him back to AAA if they had any other options.
I think Turnbull has an opt out if they don't call him up by June 9th, might have to give him a look.
How nice would it be to get Scherzer back healthy for the 2nd half, and imagine if Manoah came back and was actually good again?

Francis has very “mid” stuff. He needs near perfect fastball command to allow his splitter to play and also some sort of deception in his delivery. If his fastball is bad, his splitter is going to also be bad…and then he has nothing.
He needed to be sent down to figure stuff out last year and probably needs that again.

He has 2 pre-arb years and 4 arb years left, so maybe $30MM over 7 years? Something like 0.75, 0.75, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11.5 (FA year), but pay it equally over the seven as an incentive. You're taking on injury/regression risk, but if he keeps progressing you've got a bargain that frees up room for an FA signing.

Quoting myself from 4 games ago. I think we should also offer long term contracts to Roden, Schneider, Lukes, and Sanchez.

Berrios had a much longer track record of being a solid major leaguer than Francis. He has fundamentally better stuff than Francis.
Not saying Francis can’t get it back on track but comparing his struggles to those of Berrios is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.

You could probably justify sending him down to work on stuff if you had any reasonable option to replace him. There's already a "spot start/bullpen day" in the rotation, you can't have 2.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a guy like Yarbrough right now? Big #### up by Atkins there.
