I’m not ok with Edmonton winning.
I’d explain why to someone here in the UK if asked, but sure as hell shouldn’t need to explain why here.

I live in the States, about as far as possible from any Edmonton fans. I've never seen a hat, nor a jersey for that rotten team in my area.
And yet, I still have enough sense to hate that team with the fires of a thousand suns.
Some things are universal laws of nature, and math never lies. E = NG.

Dear diary,
I want the Calgary Flames to be the team that ends the Canadian Stanley Cup drought.
After that, maybe I'll reevaluate my feelings. But that has been my conviction for the past 25+ years and nothing is going to change that.
P.S. Cindy brushed against me today as she was opening her locker, OMG!

I notice everyone who's on board with the Grease, or judging me why I'm not, either grew up elsewhere, or moved elsewhere, and don't have any personal connection to (or subjected to) annoying, forever cocky/lippy Greaser fans. Must be nice....we're not in the same boat at all. You've forgotten how unbearable and troglodyte-laden that fanbase is.
Not to mention all the greaseballs on that team. Kane/Perry/always pissy Crysaitl etc. Just no.

-the owner is steeped in scandals and a creep who sues homeless shelters
-they broke the lottery system and shouldn't have the two players that carry the team
-they're arrogant and are surrounded by insufferable water carriers and apologists
-we're Calgary Flames fans
What more arguments do you need to say No?

I wish someone in hockey media would have the temerity to write this kind of piece and get this dialogue going in the mainstream. This organization is a comic book villain level of grossness.

You're not wrong here. I'm absolutely sure I'd feel differently if I still lived in Calgary.

Yeah I could see that. And to be fair, as someone else who's feeling extra Canadian pride these days in regards to the current U.S. political climate, I've put myself in your shoes and can imagine that if I was living down there right now too surrounded by that nonsense, I may be more inclined to pull for the Canadian teams as well.
But to expect a bunch of current Calgarians on here to be of the same mind on that...yeah, no lol. This is the worst timeline up here right now dude! I live on the Red Mile, it's pretty much unbearable every 2nd night. Not to mention all the texts/calls I've gotten. This needs to end...and if they win, it never will.

Not just that. Flames fans in Canada.
I'm dreading running into an Oilers fan I went to high school with who comes every summer to set up a summer camp for kids and does a bunch of printing at the college.
I tried not to bring up the finals last year or hockey in general but he of course had to bring them up and ask me if I'm cheering for them because they're a Canadian team. And he asked me again when they tied the series.

Yeah, I’m not about to choose who I want to win the finals on political grounds, but politics and sports have a long, intertwined history, particularly at the highest levels, both good and bad. Like it or not, they’re not two separate things, and to say this final has no political sub context would be wrong.

I agree with this.
I don't want Toronto to win, but also kind of feel sorry for them. The amount of resources they've put into hockey over so many years to have not won a cup since 1967 is something else. While I don't want Toronto to win, I could accept it.
Don't know if anyone remembers the movie "Can't Hardly Wait". Toronto is like Kenny Fisher, they are getting a "pity cup".
But Edmonton no. Not under any circumstances would I cheer for them.
