Interesting to see the different strategies. GGG/HG/Matt/Starseed/Pux played a much more aggressive game from the start, with their alliance dominating the zombie game. After a few rounds I thought it was very likely that one of them would win, but it wasn't to be.
I got overly excited and wanted to win games early. We had talked early about keeping it quiet but that didn't last long. The one thing I wish I did differently would have been to lie more. We never tried to feed bad info to people at key points in the game.
Nice work MrK, the slow and steady strategy paid off well.
Thanks girly for all the hard work. I won't vote you the first day in the next mafia game.
Girly, I have to say the amount of time you've committed to this is incredible. This game started at the same time as the hockey season! Well done to all who participated, I wish I could have been more involved.
I think it'd be interesting to see this game played under 'mafia' communication rules. (IE no PMs or communication outside the thread). It would lose the alliance intrigue, but would help the earlier games as a block couldn't just touch each other in the zombie game, for example, which would increase the strategy required for each main match. It'd be different, and I'd be interested to see how. I'm not sure if it could be any more fun than this, but it would feel new again.
Early on I really noticed this. The game was played outside the thread and a large group could predetermine the outcomes. As the group got smaller not to much was discussed. I think having each game having different communication rules would be interesting. Or have a communication period after the game is announced but before any specific roles are assigned.
Feels like forever since we did this! It was really fun!
Well, the UK has a version of the Genius this year!
It doesn't have the slick editing or graphics that the original Korean version does but the games are fun so far.
And Doctor Who is the host!

Thanks for posting this! I watched an episode on youtube today and enjoyed it.
Then I went back and re-read the entire thread. What a trip. Some great memories for sure, I can't believe its been nearly 10 years. Highlight for me was open/pass and hiding the extra deck I bought via proxy to win that game. Biggest disappointment was buying the extra clue in the stock market game and not getting full advantage as my PM to buy didn't go through due to entering a Ctrain tunnel at the deadline. Although the most downside was from complaints that silence was overpowered in the Middle Race (which I still think was ironic as everyone else passed on it), as losing that game put me in the death match where I was eliminated.
Sadly quicktopic has shut down sometime since the game ended, so I couldn't go back and re-read my team chat with Rathji and GP_Matt
Having re-read the thread with the benefit of hindsite I still think this would be amazing with mafia communication rules (no PMs or talk outside thread). Alliances would be in the open which would make them more fragile I think.
Finally, another big thank you to girlysports - even just re-reading the thread was epically fun. This was a great game and must have been a ton of work for you to manage.

I had completely forgot how I got eliminated in this. So I started at that event and read through it. I got obliterated in that event
I sort of feel bad about how that went down. Although strategically hardening everyone against your alliance was the right move. It did feel like piling on once it was only you left, and of course someone had to beat you in the death match.

If there's enough interest we could give it a try with 11 players? PM me if interested.
I have plenty of new games
It would have to be done during work hours, Monday to Thursday.

You shouldn’t it was the perfect game to take me out in.
Ironically after rereading it we only ended up with that game as the 5th last game because we broke the team game by not bidding.
I’d probably be in to play again if there is interest
Oh man, this was almost 10 years ago?? What a fun time. I'd be up for it again if Girly wanted to give it a go.
Alternatively, I could maybe help plan and facilitate? It's a huge undertaking for one person, and if I don't participate again I can blindly believe I would have won again a second time if I had played.

Episode 6 is Diamond's Dilemna, the game you guys broke!
Spoiler!
Interesting that they don't appear to have considered that strategy. Two aligned players on opposite teams could have guaranteed themselves a play through.
Also, the strategy Alison used in the death match was stone cold. Too bad for her Ben got lucky hitting a guess. Although I think she still would have won if she hadnt lost track of that piece.

I thought for sure Ben would attempt it. You need an ally on the other side, and you both need to hold 10 diamonds while your teammates place any number. Then, at game end, whoever is on the winning team can pass the token of immunity to the 10 diamond player on the losing team.
