its basically a list of non Hall of Fame goalies of the 80s (and Skinner) 40 playoff games is a reasonable amount so implies someone who started for a while or won some rounds- Bouchard, Lemelin, Liut, Moog- all good goalies for the most part- agree Vernon looks better in this light

I like greased pigs more than grease pigs.
I let others on the board decide what slander terms we use as my name calling for them would be inapropriate in most spaces.

I weirdly get a feeling that people haven't watched a lot of hockey here, even though that's obviously not true.
You all should know that hockey is a game of momentum, and both teams will have it in almost every game. The winners are separated from the losers less by how often they can have momentum, and more by how they handle the momentum changes.
Dallas doesn't quit when they're down, they can hold the fort when the other team has momentum, and when they get momentum they tend to bury some pucks. That's how you normally win hockey games, not by a 60 minutes of total domination.
Dallas showed why they're here. This series isn far from over, but they are a good team.
Edmonton also showed why their goaltenders have such poor numbers, their defense was panicking when Dallas started pushing in the 3rd.
|
Dallas didn't look good in their last 2 games vs the Jets, and the Oilers had won 8 of 9 coming in.
So there was a larger context to what we were seeing. It wasn't just 2 bad periods in a vacuum.
Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to denigrate those with pessimistic outlooks based on what they're seeing. The accusations of "closet Oiler fandom" is something this board could do without, honestly.

Dallas looked good knocking out the presidents trophy winners in game six...maybe, just maybe they were also a good team
You have a ridiculous over reaction on a message board and then the game suddenly turns around, you are going to be the subject of some mocking...get over it lol. Paulie has been going way over the top for 4 months saying Dallas is BAD and they need to fire their coach. Its laughable.
Dallas has won 6 rounds the last 3 seasons...nobody is saying it's a gurantee (except those who were pumping the Oilers last night) but this is not LA

Decided to watch the third period again because it felt like a double espresso double
rainbow kind of afternoon. Just an absolutely spectacular effort by Draisaitl on the fifth goal by Seguin to backcheck, a light ineffective stick lift, then peels to turn up ice and completely ignores the continuation of the play while Seguin goes to the net. Then at the bench Drai is angrily motioning to the offensive zone like you can’t let him score, I’m supposed to but I can’t if you don’t get me the puck.

Speaking of over reactions, let's wait a few games before crowning Dallas. You said the same thing last year when the Stars were up 2-1, that they are this godly team. And then the Oilers won 4 straight.
I don't know if you're trying to jinx Dallas or what, but wait 3 more games before crowning them. They do this every year lol so hopefully Rantanen makes a difference.

Was there a stout little teapot and a small dance involved?

Nobody is "crowning" Dallas by saying they're a good team.
People are just pointing out that saying a series is over after two periods and that it's going to be a sweep is pretty silly.

You look at all the optimism we had around here before each series last year. All the good sounding things that were said.
How we, the optimists, were wrong in the LA series, wrong in the Vancouver series, wrong in the Dallas series.
And within a whisker of seeing a 3-0 Florida lead become an Oiler cup.
And then all the optimism heading into the LA series again, "It'll be different this time!"
And then it was... until it wasn't.
Vs Vegas, don't worry Vegas will take care of this problem. And then they very much didn't.
And then Dallas "will beat them this time". And then Dallas got absolutely worked for 2 periods.
Maybe you start to see why some feared the worst?

So say "If Dallas keeps this up they'll get swept" instead of "This will be an easy sweep" when it's only 1-0 in game 1.

I'll be honest, Dallas needs to be much better going forward. They got out played for 40 minutes.
The Stars had a great 3rd period and have a great power play. But they need to play better, regardless of the outcome of game 1.
I am not going to be able to watch another team stop playing against Edmonton. It keeps happening and it's annoying lol.

Great to get the win and icing on top was 5 unanswered in the 3rd.
But I will feel much better when this series is 2-0 Going back to Edmonton.

It's not about being the "phraseology police".
I get being worried that things will go wrong because they went wrong before. Before the third I was concerned. But it's only game 1.
People can be concerned but still keep a level head.

I don't think anybody disagrees that Dallas needs to be better even though they won. But even if they didn't win it doesn't mean the series is lost.

Exactly...the only people who said the series is over so far are the ones on page 13 who thought the Oilers won it last night. The same ones who now get defensive and project. Everyone else realizes its a 7 game series and takes 4 wins not half a win.
