Is joining the USL so bad? Would imagine the level of competition to be higher.

I don't think too many Cavalry supporters would care but I don't have the same affinity for joining an American league.

From talking to Jake Davis (Cavs former GK coach who also coached in USL over beers he thought CPL was the better quality league. USL can offer a bit more money but most contracts are 1 year deals. Whereas in CPL a lot of players get 2, 3 even 4 year deals.

Yeah CPL surviving and GROWING has to be the priority for Cavalry and the other 7 teams. I don't hate the USL, it's a fun league and with Pro-Rel it is a really intriguing league that I intend on following a bit more in the years to come. I'm curious to see how their land battle shakes out with MLS in the next decade. But Canada needs a league if we're ever to take this sport seriously.

Commissioner just quit. Successor has apparently been picked but is not yet public. Everyone panic.

Here's an article:

https://northerntribune.ca/cpl-commi...-to-step-down/

I do hate these vagueness of these things. Staying on as a consultant, everyone saying polite words, etc. But having your commissioner leaving mid-season with some of these trouble spots looming... not ideal at all.

But, I guess we'll see who's next and if they can somehow douse these fires and give the league a shot in the arm.

We would lose the two Concacaf Champions Cup berths from CPL most likely, so there would be a loss of prestige and games against elite teams (which can seemingly be played in Calgary thanks to McMahon being fixed up for the Wild).

The up side is the owners could outspend the cap, build a stronger team, and perhaps get back in through Canadian Championship. Cavs would have a lot more opponents in USL Championship.

I would rather the CPL figure things out and fast. Expansion and Designated Players to the rescue?

Expansion is a real hurdle in this country.

CEBL is at 10 teams with a summer league relying on out of season players and ready-to-go facilities all across the country empty during the season. CFL has been at 8-9 teams for decades. NSL just started and is at 6 teams. Every other pro league relies on having clubs in the US.

I think the league has to strike a balance between not having expansion be so daunting that it turns off investors, while making sure the ownership groups are committed to doing it right and not how Edmonton, Valour or Vancouver are doing it.

Ndiaye doesn’t get a yellow card for multiple elbows when jumping but now everyone is getting one

Sloppy game so far. Herdman really struggling on the left. Wahling is getting in good position but is clumsy with his touches. Vancouver are just kicking Tobi all over the park and nothing is getting called.

A brutal dive by Fry leads to a goal… brutal

Missing Montgomery’s height and physicality big time

I don’t think any of Henry, Herdman, or Musse are playing well. Like Jesper Sorensen said about his team yesterday it looks like Cavalry is dribbling around and not going anywhere

I'm really worried for the CPL - I realize that this is a Cup match, but there doesn't look to be more than a couple of hundred people in the stands. There just isn't enough interest to keep this whole thing going up here in Canada.

Need a much stronger second half. Move the ball quicker and have more of a midfield presence. Don’t be sloppy

Right foot, left foot, great finish. He's way too good for this level!

I’ve done that kick the ball at the same time as the opponent thing that Kamdem just did. I was on crutches for 2 weeks. Hopefully he will fare better than me

Teams in MLS cities was a mistake.

Tough to get fans to support two different soccer teams, especially when you can get tickets to the MLS for the same price as tickets to the CPL.

I looked today just to see and the CPL tickets in Toronto and Vancouver are around $20 but you can easily get Whitecaps or Toronto FC tickets for similar prices on the resale market.

Second half was so much better but until the goal the best chance was a Wahling shot from 20 yards. Not many chances being created out there. Vancouver defended really well and that’s two games this season against Cavalry that they’ve controlled the midfield (maybe until the last ~25 minutes tonight). Aird and Daley helped change the game and Wahling found his touch and I think is Cavalry’s man of the match. I’d like to see him get some more minutes in attack

What else can we say about Warschewski? One chance, one goal

Draw is probably a fair result on the night. All to play for at Spurs Meadows in July (boo. Far too long between games for one round of a tournament).

None of the favourites got a win this week, although some may have considered Forge an equal against Montreal.

Yeah, tickets are way too expensive for what is on offer in the CPL. You can get tickets for almost all MLS games that don't feature Messi for about $30 on the secondary ticket websites.

You can't be charging people to watch players that aren't at a level worth paying to see play. Cavalry had a guy last season named Lowell Wright who was an absolute embarrassment out on the pitch. He was about forty pounds overweight and couldn't kick snow off a rope. I love a day out down at Spruce Meadows but the level of play is awful.

Look, I get the frustration up to a certain level, but every single thing you post in this thread is negative, passive aggressive, backhanded, or sarcastic about players, the team or the league as a whole. Maybe don't watch this league if it's so bad to you? Some of us actually enjoy this league and like what it has done, and what it is doing for, the game in this country.

We can't all start at English Premier League quality right in season one. Leagues take time to grow. You ever watched early-day MLS? Case in point.
