No chance Rasmus is landing Kasper. Would love it to happen though.

I think the overall safety of Calgary, the way that fans interact with players, and proximity to nature are huge factors for players thinking long term. Tanev had a great interview talking about how respectful fans are when they’d see him around Calgary, Coleman and Lomberg have talked a lot about raising their families here

Like, seriously. Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon could both be UFA and it gets reported that they're interested in going to the same team and some people here would be "No way! We don't want them" and come up with cons that probably don't even outweight the pros.
There is no perfect player and we aren't going to suddenly invent one. If someone like Barzal or Marner helps improve our club then shouldn't we be interested in what they could do for our team?
|
I agree that the team needs more players and more talent. However, I think there is more to building a good team than simply adding players.
I also think CP - if we're going to generalize here - is in favour of pretty much every player that is rumoured to be available, which if you think about it, is pretty silly. Organizations are limited in roster size as well as the cap. Also, you need balance between positions. And possibly most importantly, you need to understand where in the life cycle of a team your organization is currently.
I do not want to see the team spend significant resources on either of them, as I don't think Marner nor Barzal fits what the team needs (as wing is their strongest and deepest position already), nor do they fit the time lines of the current roster - by the time the Flames are emerging with some of their young (and future) additions, these guys will be in decline.
Are they good players? Yes. Are they what the team needs? No, not in my opinion.
Building a good team requires patience - all the best organizations demonstrate it regularly. The weaker ones often do not. And fans rarely do.
I am all for adding better players. But I also believe it is imperative to be patient and pursue the right additions.

Is Kent Johnson potentially available? He’s got one more year at 1.8 then he’s an rfa
Fantilli
Lindstrom
Monahan
Sillinger
Down the middle for the foreseeable future. Rasmus to Columbus makes a lot of sense

Its too bad the Sabres are such an unattractive market because I vould see a similar deal there.
1st + Rasmus for kulich + 9th oa.
Detroit is another one where we could trade Rasmus get a young center and move up.
Or I wonder if the ducks are looking to build some more vets now
Zegras + 1st for 1st + Rasmus

Podkolzin went one pick after Zegras and the Canucks got a 4th for him. Feels like Zegras should not be worth much more than that, given he is terrible.

He's 24 and has two 60+ point seasons.. but I digress as he's not the primary point of the package.
The bigger part is getting 10th oa if they're really high on a center around there like McQueen or Martin.
You could exchange Zegras with a Zellwegar or something.

You put Zegras in the right situation and just let him focus on creating offence and he has superstar talent. Anaheim tried to turn him into a two way grinder.

Zegras has said he didnt want to play in Canada.
Marner said he wouldn't play in Canada outside of Toronto.
Of course what someone says can easily be swayed by money in some cases, but I just dont see Calgary as a landing spot for either.
I know Calgary had more interest in Bennett then they did Marner.
With that said, Calgary wont be going into a bidding war for him so I doubt Bennett ends up here either.
I think Toronto spends to keep Knies around long term, but I know they also have interest in Bennett.
Calgary was very much interested in Rantannen, from what I was told we may see them go the offer sheet route or trade VS's spending big on UFA's.

Lindstrom just played his 1st hockey game all season. And Johnson is coming off a 57 point season. Suspect Columbus would rather move Sillinger ahead of him.

With Monahan and Lindstroms Injury history, CBJ will likely not be moving Kent Johnson.

At some point you need to build a team where different players bring different things to the table. Sillinger led all Jackets centers in time on ice on the PK. Monahan played less games and had more mins on the PK per game but Columbus uses Monahan and Sillinger as their PK centers.
Fantilli is most likley to be the franchise center and Lindstrom IMO is more of a keeper than Johnson.
Johnson is going to get paid soon, would bring a ton in a trade.
Sillinger could end up being a top end 3rd liner. They need guys like this as well.

Lindstrom could be great, but that injury history means they have to be careful assuming anything.

22 years old, 69 point pace this year.
If they moved him, there would be every other team lining up bidding for him.

I’ll take your word for it, he got 4 power play points this year in 57 games while playing first unit minutes the entire year. Maybe they told him to play a two way grinder game on the PP too. Put me in the camp that says the guy ain’t very good.

Zegras has tonnes of talent, injury's and "issues" have got the best of him lately but with an expiring contract I can see a big year from him.

A stampeder player is quoted as saying he will never ever spend an offseason in Canada again. Nothing against calgary but it’s a miserable winter.
They also can’t use the mountains because of insurance reasons and getting injured. He said he would be back once retired to enjoy the mountains.

If Anaheim tried to turn zegras into a 2 way grinder they failed miserably because he is awful defensively and quits on plays easily.
You can go back to the short handed goal we scored late in the season on Anaheim. Not only did he turn it over he flat out quit skating at the red line and let us go in free for a goal.
You can be all out offence but if your work ethic is as poor as zegras that offence has to be 100 points plus.

Despite the pushback on Johnson, Columbus is one of the teams I think that would have interest in Andersson. And I think they’ll make a push for Marner if he goes to free agency. Another top line winger and a veteran right defender would have almost certainly got them into the playoffs this year.
I think they’d be more willing to deal from their prospect base to get Andersson, but Sillinger plus 14 overall or one of their better prospects could be doable if Calgary included another asset back.
With how wide open the middle of the first round is this year, I’d love to see Calgary have another mid first round pick… and who knows, they may be able to package it with another of their firsts to move up into the top 10.
