Sounds like Kadri, Kessel & many others.
Lots of winners on the "never win with" list.

Well if there is a chance the Flames are involved in this, then I double down on it…

Kadri and Kessel have a GAF meter. Zegras does not. Pretty easy to see the differences in the players.

Remember when ROR was the type of player that teams wouldn't win with?
Every single player was or is that player...until they win. Could need a change of scenery, different coach, different players to play with, a better leader to learn from, less off i e distractions....it could be anything. Every player can win under the right circumstances, it's up to the team to try and figure it out.

Don't be silly. You'll never win the Stanley Cup with any player who hasn't won it before. This is why the winner each year is whoever has the complete roster of the 1893 Montreal Amateur Athletic Association.
It's unfair, really. Hockey looks like a game for the living, but only the undead can win it all.

There really is no threat of a 4.68M dollar offer sheet as Rossi would have no incentive to sign it.

Not surprised to read this information. Kind of felt like this has been on the docket since the deadline.
I don't think this is a rush job to short track the retool but a natural reaction to the teams overall performance this season.
I don't even know if the Flames will make both picks in the 1st round this year either. I suspect they'll go out and try to acquire another top 6 skilled FW with one of them. Hopefully Florida's, but I guess that depnds on where that FLA pick lands. If FLA beat the Leafs then I'll assume they'll move 18th. If the Leafs win the 22 is in the same hemisphere as 18 and it won't make much of a difference.
Either way, it's fun to hear things like this. The idea of Marner on the Flames is a cool one. Also means there's likely more moves to offload some players as well.
Going to be a fascinating offseason to see where Conny is steering this rig.

Adding Rossi and Marner would be a pretty exciting off-season!

Rossi will not take 4.68 M offer sheet.
4.68 M would be good for Borque though, and the Stars would be hard pressed to match.

I'd save any offer sheets for this year to see what Anaheim does with McTavish.
next year they will have McTavish signed to what I'm assuming will be a big long term deal and will have Gauthier, Zegras and Carlsson coming due as RFA's all next year.

I know the Flames are jammed up with middle-six wingers and heavy on left shots, but I would be doing a deep dive on Will Cuylle if you can get him for second-round compensation.
23 years old
6'3 210
45 points of which only 3 came on the powerplay
-5v5 on-ice shooting % of 11.4 so a little fortunate but not a PDO bender by any means
Kills penalties
Positive relative possession player
Tied with Pospisil for third in the league in hits
Per PuckPedia the Rangers have $8.5 million in cap space and need to sign K. Miller, Cuylle, one more D (assuming Miller re-signed, if not two), and one or two more forwards, all while entering the final season of their Panarin window.
Likely the Rangers find a way to match but could be a sneaky candidate.

I like Cuylle but like you mentioned, the flames are already pretty logjammed. If Coleman and a guy like Honzek were moved this summer, maybe

With the cap going up, are there any teams that are actually in cap trouble next season where an RFA offer sheet would have maximum effect?

I think you take a flyer on Zegras because of the talent but only in a buy low type of situation.

The Flames have depth and if they want to make the leap to a contender, they need a real superstar or 2. They aren't getting anywhere with guys like Zegras.
If you see how things have gone here, or look at Carolina and Dallas this playoffs. The Flames need to look at both these teams and have the same approach, unless they switch to tank mode.
Carolina - loses a couple of important dmen in the off season, trades Necas to get Rantanen, fail to resign him and trades him for a young NHL forward and picks. 1 win away for the Eastern finals despite losing what seemed like 3 key players.
Dallas - drafts and develop like Carolina does. Great team but missing a superstar. Add Rantanen and they are a threat to win the cup and he is that missing superstar on forward. 2 wins away from the West Finals
Flames sell a ton of players yet are a 96 point team. Trade Hanifin and lots say how do we replace a solid player like him? Lindholm same thing, our centers will be awful without him. Zadorov, very good depth guy we need to keep him as he brings it physcially. Markstrom out, Wolf in. Toffoli out, how will be good without him?
Unless we add a superstar...pass pass pass. Conroy will draft and develop the depth.

Even if it is buy low, if he plays well he will get paid and he will get paid more than he brings to the table. Pass
