Does anyone have a link to a respectable summary of the Beach situation and each person's role in it? I am a little fuzzy on what happened, and the hyperbolic exclamations are not helping. Were the police involved? Were there charges, a trial, or just civil claims paid?

I have to disagree. I think people losing their lives is a bit bigger of a transgression than what Q did. That being said none of it is acceptable.

Correct. None of these are better or worse. What I don't like is that Quenneville is being allowed to resume the same position he was in before when he maliciously corroborated with others to cover up and hide both that a sexual assault occurred and then the person who committed the sexual assault. He did still take the time to compliment the work done by the rapist though, so he had his back.
I don't think Heatley or Mactavish should have been allowed to drive ever again. I don't think they should have walked without jail time either. But them returning to play hockey (after they served time, in a perfect world that we don't live in) isn't as heinous to me since their crimes were not related to hockey. Quenneville's was and his punishment was a bit of time in time-out, two stanley cups and a reputation as a great coach despite the fact that he may be good at the Xs and Os but he failed miserably at one of the key jobs he has in protecting his players.
Bertuzzi is a kettle of fish I am not touching here since I am somewhat biased to the whole thing.

After time away and missing a few years of NHL level salary, verbal ownership should be the requirement to get back in.
I remember coach Q saying he could've done more and showed some remorse at the time. I don't remember Bowman taking ownership publicly.
But I think it should be restated and followed up on to get the hire. What did you learn? How are you going to be better? Those questions need satisfactory answers to create trust with the public that they can be in those positions again.
It's not a redemption arc if they just went away for a bit then came back the same people.

There are 32 teams with one HC and one GM. You’d think there could be more people who could do these things than the same handful on rotation. People love Jon Cooper. Well one time no one knew who the hell he was. Find your own. Stop hiring crappy people. How could anyone play for someone like this I don’t know. You could never trust a thing he says. The NHL shouldn’t need to outright ban people. Just move on. He’ll be dead soon and then what’re you going to do? Hire his ghost?
He made plenty of money I’m sure he’s fine retiring at the same age as most people.

Guess the decision to hire him is up to Anahiem ultimately. Sounds like they did their homework, knowing it could be a PR nightmare, and they felt he had done enough to warrant a second chance.
He made a mistake. But you can’t stop him from working in the future once his suspension was completed.

Pro sports can be a cruel business. All depends on what side of the old boys club you fall on.
Colin Kaepernick takes a knee to protest injustice. Never plays a snap again
Coach is involved in sexual assault coverup and is behind bench again.
Old boys network in nfl killed a career. Old boys network in nhl resurrected a career. I think we all agree who deserved a second chance and who didn’t.
I hope the Kyle beach situation is brought up at every press conference by the opposition press in post game scrums. And I hope there are trade requests and rfa holdouts by current ducks players as a form of protest. Get drafted by ducks? Pull a Lindros. I wouldn’t want my kid near an organization hiring someone with that kind of baggage.
Given the trial ongoing in London, this is an incredibly tone deaf stupid move by the ducks.

I have to tip my hat to Kyle Beach for finding it in his heart to give Quenneville his blessing to return to coaching. After all he's been through, that just speaks to his character ... but just because he's given his okay, it doesn't mean the NHL has to give him another shot.
I hate the framing of this (by some) as cancel culture. Coaching in the NHL is not a right, it's a privilege. Joel Quenneville should have lost that privilege because of his actions and non-actions in 2010, plain and simple. This is a black mark on the league as a whole and the Ducks in particular.

Bertuzzi jumped on a guy trying to fight him. It went way wrong.
Quenneville heard about a sexual assault by an employee and said he wanted it kept quiet for a while so his team could win.
They are nothing alike.

This wasn't even the choice. The thought process of "if I fire my video coach for assaulting a player, we could lose" is absolutely insane. Your video coach is not imperative to your victory. I would argue standing up for your players is a much more important factor towards winning.

True. But I think his thought process wasn’t about losing his video coach, it was about distracting the team.

Again, that’s an insane line of thinking. What happened was an open secret and had a segment of the team openly mocking the victim, I think it’s safe to assume there was at least some portion of the players that thought it was effed up. How is it more of a distraction to address it directly, say he’s been dismissed, and disgusting behaviour won’t be tolerated in a winning organization, than it is to have a gross breach of trust being whispered about everywhere?
“One of my low level coaches assaulted a player and everyone knows, but if I fire him it’s a distraction”. It’s sociopathic.

True. In a game, where he was stupidly trying to engage in a fight.

Yeah that’s why I didn’t say bigger or try to compare tragedies. I specifically worded it as a reflection of their true character.

Only question that matters to me. Will I be able to take a sign to games, sit behind the bench and call this bum out on live TV?

That thought crossed my mind as well. I imagine that even in opposition buildings that would likely result in you getting kicked out or at a minimum confiscation of your sign.
