I really hope they do the draw like this year next year as well.

It was fun seeing the Flames alive when the final ball was drawn the 2nd time around.

I'm hoping that we can trade Anderson for the Columbus pick (14) and somehow package picks to move up.

And one pick before Calgary with all of McQueen, Potter, Kindel and Reschny available.

Reading all the scouting reports, and seeing some videos of McQueen add that to his injury history I just don't think he is worth the risk. He also seems to project more as a winger with the playstyle I have read in the scouting reports.

Much like Cayden last year McQueen definitely has that aura around him.
I too would stay far away, back issues are never good.

7-25 is going to be a crap shoot in this draft IMO.

Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Desnoyers, Frondell, Hagens feel like they will be the top 6.

But between 7-25 it feels like it's going to be a lot of variation.

Eklund, McQueen, O'Brien, Smith, Mrtka, Bear, Lakovic, Carbonneau, Martin, Aitcheson, Spence, Hensler, Reid, Kindel, Reschny, Potter, Cootes, Nesbitt, Ryabkin

And I think McQueen will drop - teams will shy away after the Lindstrom issues this past year. But I could see the Flames doing it - especially if they end up with 18 and 22.

Would like this. Even if they couldn’t trade up by packaging the picks. Something like this maybe:

To Columbus:
Andersson (50% retained)
Poirier
2026 3rd round pick

To Calgary:
2025 1st round pick (14th overall)
Sillinger
2nd round pick

Not sure who would need to add in that trade or if Columbus would even consider trading Sillinger.

Would really like to pick before Vancouver and Montreal. I have a feeling they will both target a high ceiling centre with their picks at 15th and 16th overall - leaving Calgary to pick what’s left for centres at 18. Could just see McQueen and/or Rechny being there at the 15th pick and both being gone by the time the flames pick at 18th overall.

In this trade scenario, I wonder what packaging 14th overall + 18th overall + 22nd overall gets the flames in terms of a higher pick in the draft? For it to be at all worth it, I would think it has to get a pick in the 7th overall range.

I think this is a critical draft year for Conroy. He need to find a young 2nd line center, ( if drafting, looks like he would need to move up in the top 6). If there is a somewhat established young player (under 24) available, I would think the only untouchables are Wolf, Parekh and Calgary's own 1st round pick next year. ( I wonder if they would be willing to deal the unprotected Las Vegas next year as a sweetener in any deal).

Would really much rather keep both those picks. Could just see next year being the year Vegas takes a dive in the standings due to injuries and/or a long playoff run hangover. After this whole year of stressing about where the flames or other teams would finish because the Montreal trade, I just want the flames to keep collecting first round picks and making the selections. Keep making a deep prospect pool with quality scouting/drafting.

Reschny/Cootes would be an outstanding result. Hopefully we can nab at least one.

One C name I haven't heard much about is Cullen Potter. Sounds like a smaller, skilled guy.
Any thoughts if he can stick as a centre?

Spoke with members of the Sharks scouting team. Schaefer was their #1 on the board so if the Islanders leave him he will be the choice but if he is taken it's between Misa and Martone for 2. Martone they feel is the highest offensive producer in the draft. Was told it's slightly Misa at 2 but don't count out Martone. They have from now until the draft to decide which of the 2. Sharks staff has been watching them closely for awhile since they've been out of it for awhile.

Somewhat of a Flames note. Sharks interested in Vladar on July 1st if he isn't signed by Calgary before then. Georgiev was told he is not returning and Askarov will be brought up. I think their ideal is Askarov/Vladar.

I'm a bit torn in that I do think the team has to be better at drafting centers, but am concerned that they could overlook something like Pasternak or Connor because they're trying to hard to get a center. But maybe you just say eff it and draft centers until you get a couple of them. It's hard to find a team still in the playoffs who's top two or three centers are not first round picks. Even Aho was like 35 overall and Hintz was 49. So use all the pucks in the top 50 on centers and get the wingers and D after that.
