I would put the odds of the Flames drafting top 3 next year at slim and none and Slim has left town. Kadri isn't going anywhere, Andersson will probably be moved but I am not sure Parekh even as rookie isn't an upgrade. You will have a full season of Frost and Farabee who should produce more like their normal numbers and more development from guys like Coronato and Zary. I think the Flames will be a bubble team again competing for a playoff spot.

I think Sharangovich will have a bounce back season as well, as long as he's healthy.

Inb4 the tank enthusiasts said if we had just tanked this would've been the year to win the lottery.

How’s his skating?

Should they just draft the best available center?

Hard to say really as things can change a lot year to year. Nobody, and I mean nobody envisioned the Predators finishing bottom 3 and they did so by a fair margin. That said as long as the Flames continue to have a strong work ethic, they should stay afloat but trading Anderson will make them worse as I don't see another defenseman on the roster able to take up his minutes. Backlund and Coleman will not likely be better and likely worse. Kadri will be 35 and his drop-off could happen at any time. I think the Flames will likely take a step back next season and it's just a matter of how much.

Agreed, I think the only way we end up with a top 3 pick is if either us or Vegas are decimated by injuries all year and finish low enough to be in the lottery hunt.

Lots of chatter online from Isles fans about trading back and taking Hagens. Local kid who grew up an Isles fan, plays with Eiserman already in college. We may have legitimately had a chance to get to 1 if we'd gotten 6...

Somehow, some way, Vegas needs to implode next year. Seems so unlikely but that would be just perfect. Can't we have our cake and eat it too, for once?

It's much more likely that the Flames implode as opposed to Vegas

I don't think either implode though

Probably picking mid to late teens and mid to late 20's again in 2026

Based on the U18's alone and how valued centers are, I cant see Reschny making it to 18.
Stranger things have happened though, so you can never say never but if he is there at 18 you walk up to the podium like Vince McMahon and select him immediately.

I'll add Vancouver is also highly in need of centers and is very likely to draft one at 15.

From the U18s, big standouts for me that fall in the Flames range of outcomes:

- C Will Moore US
- C Braeden Cootes CAN
- G Ivankovic (Canadian version of Dustin Wolf) CAN
- C Cole Reschny CAN
- C Brady Martin (if he slips)
- LW Filip Ekberg

I'm at 50-50 whether he's there or not when Calgary picks. Bob Mckenzie didn't include him in his top 16 survey rankings and while Wheeler has him at 15, he thinks Rechny will go later than he has him.

A bit of me feels that McQueen is the wildcard. He could fall to 15, and it would be pretty hard for a team like Vancouver (or Calgary) to pass over him, even with big question marks.

Montreal could take Reschny too but they don't necessarily need a centre, so they'll go with BPA on their two picks.

Gastrin and Ryabkin will be Flames. It's all so inevitable.

Have to hope Ryabkin slips to us and still has the advertised talent at this point. We played ourselves out of grabbing a truly useful prospect this year, probably.

Daily Faceoff has Reschny to the Habs with our pick...

Then Kindel with 18 and Cootes 22.
I wouldnt hate that outcome
