Why are you talking about percentages when I was clearly talking about the number of votes?
The total number of votes for the Conservative leadership race was ~37,000 votes in 2020 and then leapt to 412,690 in 2022. That is a massive outlier, especially when you consider the layers of scandals in that leadership race (Patrick Brown's campaign having their legal fees paid for by the Poilievre campaign and CSIS identifying that both India and China participated in interfering with the race).
The Liberal party, which objectively had a lot more interest across the nation after Trudeau resigned, only had 151,899 votes. It was still a big jump from the ~30,000 votes in 2013 but nowhere near the increase that the Conservatives had in their 3rd leadership vote in 8 years.

Your proposed solution though is keep the status quo. I have voted for party leaders in all the parties but I can’t be bothered to figure out when nomination meetings are. An expectation that active involvement in an individual party is required to fight more extreme positions from getting elected is not going to be a solution.

Not quite. My proposed notion is that everyone should be participating within the parties in good faith. However, "good faith" is a huge leap in today's politics. There was online troll campaigns trying to interfere in the Liberal leadership race as they wanted anyone but Carney to win.
If I were to start actual solutioning, I think that in 2025 there should be a way to securely and transparently build an online system that is able to help political parties govern themselves. Security is the biggest issue. The parties should not be left to their own devices to protect themselves against interference.
Also, through an online government secured system, they should be able to make the parties more accessible to the citizens of Canada. It shouldn't require digging to find out that a nomination vote is happening in your riding. It also should not require in-person voting when you should be able to perform the act on your phone. I would look at how to make a secure app that keeps you in touch with your parties of interest and put in layers of security, like MFA and encryption keys to sign in or needing your fingerprint and facial recognition to prove you are the one voting in your account, each time you vote.
From there you could start storming ideas like creating digital Canadian identities for all citizens that are linked to their passports, driver's licenses and SIN. Then you could force the app to be pushed to all phones in Canada and have it ready there for users to sign in with their government provided ID.
I could go on but I think you get the idea that my solution would be a lot more involved than just maintaining status quo.
