True.
I can foresee a situation where if there was another option on the right, more people tired of the Liberals would have chosen a center right party that didn't have Poilievre. A lot of people I talked to who normally vote for someone other than the Conservatives said they would have considered it if PP wasn't the leader and the "fringe minority" wasn't absorbed into the party.
So yeah, I totally get what you are saying about how the Conservatives monopolizing the right isn't always helpful. I still think the vote splitting on the left has more of an impact on election results though.

Given how close this election is him winning his seat would make a meaningful difference in the balance of power. Any other candidate would get smoked. So going in a toss up seat and turning into a safe seat makes a difference.
