Have either of them spoke of plans to entice educated workforce from the USA to
come across the border? Seems like such a perfect time to poach as many as possible right now. Or would that be more of a provincial initiative?
You mean this loser? Why would anyone come here if PP won?
Quote:
U.S. President Donald Trump has been threatening to cancel funding for some universities unless they accede to his demands to change ideological policy, similar to a pledge Pierre Poilievre has made for Canadian post-secondary schools.
But so far, the Conservative leader has been sparse on details of exactly what kind of action he might take.
Poilievre, meanwhile, has also threatened to defund universities over what he perceives as their ideological slant. In a Christmas Eve tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, Poilievre said he would "defund wokism and fight antisemitism."
Man, PP is such a f’n loser. My hope is that the Cons get demolished so badly in this election that it forces them to dump PP and the far-right element of their party and move back to the centre. This Maple MAGA bulls*** has no place in this country and it needs to be obliterated.

Carney did in his conversation with Scott Galloway (American pod caster).

Carney talks about it in the interview by Scott Galloway that I posted yesterday.
It's certainly on his radar; whether there's any actual strategy or specifics yet I don't know.

130B in new spending confirmed by the Liberals, with no timeline to balance the budget. Perfect, more debt, more government, more taxes, more of the same...the worst economy in G7.
I don't understand how folks expect things to magically be different.
And Carney using fear to motivate is pathetic. Trump is going to invade, take our water, etc etc. Classic control and manipulation.

Ah yes, PP is the answer right?

Well, a couple things. First, there are tax cuts within this platform and not tax increases. But second, how much debt and deficit are acceptable for you? I ask because the CPC hasn’t released their costed platform yet, but there’s no way that will balance.
And the issues with the US haven’t gone away. Just this week we heard again how Trump thinks we should be the 51st state. I’ve long had concerns about the US eyeing our freshwater, and we’ve seen the brought up over the past year as well. I don’t think that having a plan to make Canada more independent and prepared to handle the US is fear-mongering. It’s prudent.

Carney isn’t using fear tactics. Trump has literally stated, over and over again, that he wants to annex Canada. Then you have conservative leaders like Smith openly courting that plan while PP plays rub and tug with MAGA. WTF reality do these people live in? It’s astonishing.

And it’s incredibly naive to see that he has backed off the rhetoric for a few weeks to coincide with the election, and think that everything is fine. The idea that we should just pretend that nothing is happening and all those issues have gone away is ridiculous. Danielle Smith lifting the procurement measures and the CPC trying to insinuate that this is a non-factor and we should focus on things like plastic straws is just dangerous.

Smith totally ghosting after her missteps early in the campaign is a pretty good sign PP was realizing while they both share the same ideas and messages, it wasn't going to get him elected when Canadians realized that. She's been a good toady the past week or so, but her hiding in Asia shouldn't fool anyone.

Carney has actually, on multiple occasions, addressed the issue calmly and without sensation, reassuring Canadians as opposed to fear mongering.
So it’s rich watching Conservatives call it “pathetic.” These are the same people falling over themselves to defend PP because they’re scared of things as flimsy as “woke.” Simmer2 is the perfect example of this brand of conservative, all talk and projection, but ultimately gutless folk that are easily offended and a manipulators dream.
If Trump’s desire ever did come to pass, they’d be the first to roll over.

I keep seeing this posted by the same people who want tax cuts & US style GDP growth.
Have you looked at the US debt?
One second you're GDP per capita, next you're talking taxes, then debt and somehow Canada is the worst in G7 no matter which metric?
Look up some numbers man, the ignorance is inexcusable.

Took about an hour in Saddleridge this morning. Definitely need more poll workers, because the person taking your information always had to stop halfway through to deal with the ballot from the person in front of you. Also people who didn't have a voting card got to scoop the line, as they were taken in to register and then right over to their poll line, ahead of those in the general line who were waiting to get into the gymnasium where the poll lines were.
The workers were getting a lot of grief for things that weren't their fault, so they just kept encouraging everyone to fill out a feedback form at the end to complain about staffing levels.
It will be interesting to see if voting numbers are that much higher or staffing numbers were just that much lower.
Early voting is becoming much more common. In the 80s, 95 per cent of votes were cast on election day. In the 2021 federal election 35 per cent of votes were cast early. And the first day of early voting in this election set records, so we’ll likely see that number rise.
Early voting makes things more difficult for elections Canada. It’s much easier to plan and staff for a single election day than for many days spread over weeks, when turnout on any given day might vary dramatically.

Well back then you needed an acceptable reason to vote early.
I've lived in the same riding for years and it's always been like this (long lineups). The staff were encouraging us to fill out complaint forms, probably because of the annoying people in line who wouldn't stop complaining. I did, because I feel they should know by now that this riding has long lineups and staff accordingly.
Once I heard it was an issue in a lot of places, I was less annoyed.
The best option was voting REALLY early at the election office (?) once. It was so quiet in there, the guy running it gave me a tour and explained how they dealt with voters who spoke different languages, etc. I think he was bored...lol

The plan is to balance it in three years. He is a financial and economic mastermind so there is no doubt he will get things to balance out.
