The bigger problem in Edmonton right now in my opinion is that we are overrun with homeless people and petty theft has skyrocketed.

Anyways why are people so quick to jump to the 'must be an immigrant' card? from that judgement I guess a 'real' Canadian (the light skin kid) could never committ a crime. Immigrant or not an immigrant, black, white, or brown I dont care what their skin color is a crime is a crime, and I dont give a crap about the name of their birth country.

I live on Whyte Ave in Edmonton... there is pretty much a weekly stabbing there... pretty scary stuff. Its more common to get robbed, though, especially in the downtime.

Calgary is scary with their gang violance and have explosive crime... Edmonton is just small town stabbings. Random stabbings isn't a Calgary thing, and Edmontonians are known to go to the Stampede. Just speculating.

What I find most startling in about this is two things:

1) There appears to be no connection between the victims and the offenders (which there usually is in past homicides and violent crimes in Calgary)
2) There's nothing to suggest drugs and/or robbery as a motive...meaning these people went around, stabbing people for no f'ing reason.

While I don't condone any kind of stabbing, I'm especially disturbed by the fact that two of the victims were women. Honestly, WTF?

I mean, everytime me and my buddies are sitting around bored, and the idea of stabbing random people is tabled, it is quickly dismissed as soon as someone suggests stabbing women.
Wait. Random stabbing has never been an option for late night fun in my circle. Then again, I'm not a "gangsta".

After reading the Herald this morning I'm in disbelief that some people could actually do that. I wonder what goes on in their head thinking this stuff is alright. I hope the police find these guys and then put them behind bars for life. We don't need people like that in our society. They are cowards and I hope karma comes to these guys.

The good news is I have never seen so many cops out stopping people for minor infractions like jaywalking and failing to signal. At least we are being kept safe from those people.

The worst was when I was in high school several years ago, there were undercover cops giving out tickets to STUDENTS who were 'jaywalking' across the street in front of the school.

Lame to the nth degree.

Perhaps if more cops were out on the street busting people for minor infractions there would be a higher chance that they would be able to intercept and stop the stab happy posse before they caused too much damage.

Absolutely. I don't think that the stabby gang is hanging out at 162nd ave sw and 24 th st though. They just seem to be trying to hit their quotas early this month.

It seems that everyone in this city knows where the crime hotspots are except the police.

I also see how they need legions of more helicopters too. Seeing as though it's getting tough to bust teen drinkers on both Nose Hill Park and at the Crowfoot ball diamonds at the same time with use of the infrared sensor.

Or more motorcycles for that cop hinding between posts on interchanges nabbing people doing 5km/h over the speed limit.

Until this garbage ends and these resources are used to actually deal with the actual issues in which a city needs a police force for I refuse to give any money to Police charity events, etc.

I would agree that this makes sense. Some of these new gangs makes the hells angels initiations look like afternoon tea.

Some examples of initiations that I've head about

Being Jumped in - Basically your gang swarmed and you must fight back
Initiation by Cop - Was used by the Crips in thier hey day, you had to kill a cop
Jacked in - Commit a theft or larceny
Gauntlet - The initiate has to run between two lines of gang members and stay on his feet throughout it.
Sexed in - The hells angels were famous for this at one time when the initiated female members (they were never full members though, they became old ladies)
Drive by shootings - The bloods did this one.
Russian Roulette - If you win your in, if you lose, your application is stamped rejected.
Blood in blood out - You have to murder someone to join, and murder someone to leave.
Circled in - Pretty obvious, but you have to fight your way out of a circle of members.
Courted in - Only reserved for people with skills like Lawyers. They're basically invited in
Deeded in - You have to sleep with a female gang member with a STD and not catch the disease. No protection allowed.
Freeing Hoover - 6 pennies are tossed on the ground, and you have to pick up the pennies while being beaten by gang members. The beating stops when all the pennies are collected.

Punched in - Being punched hard right in the sternum over the heart. If you live your in.

Anyways thought these might be interesting.
