Most British football fans I know hate the show. I can understand why. I love football too, but I'm not like IN IT.
It'd be like if they made a show about a cricket coach that ends up coaching the Rangers. Even if the show is good, the original conceit is just not something I'm going to get behind.

You're going to get Millwall Hammered for comments like that!!
I can see why hardcore EPL fans might take issue, but I thought the show was pretty good about dancing around that. They used real Refs, they got Pep, but Richmond is fictitious, they beat some real teams but not naming those teams' real players.
I'm okay with it. I like the hardcore Richmond fans in the Pub! Been there, done that, I thought that was hilariously accurate.
But you're making a show around what is probably the most profitable and valuable sports league on Earth. You're gonna have to dance a little.

I like Jason Sudeikas, which is why I wanted to like it.
I do like comedies, but there aren’t many out there right now - suggestions would be appreciated.
I loved Kim’s Convenience (saw the stage show a few months ago) and Schitt’s Creek.
Completely different genre, but right now, I’m hooked on Severance. Which reminds me, I discovered Parks and Recreation late, and it became one of my all time favourites.

Yeah, I think I'm still feeling the same way on this. Unless I hear some overwhelming glowing praise for this when it comes out, this is a pass for me.

Tim Robinson is hilarious. I recommend I Think You Should Leave (sketch comedy show that's really funny) and Detroiters. Both shows are produced by Jason Sudeikis, I think. He cameos in Detroiters a few times.

Thanks. To me Ted Lasso and Schitt’s Creek are very similar. Fish out of water, but the shows are really about the growth in people.
Severance is the best TV show since Saul.

Soccer sucks, but this show does not.

Do yourself a favour and discover 30 Rock.
An exceptional show.

Yeah I think they did a great job with all of that, but the whole idea of an American Football (which they already hate enough as is) coach is going to coach an EPL team AND be a success is something that they just won't abide. It doesn't matter if everything else is great if your whole premise is a joke.

This is not a soccer show.
This is a comedy-drama and it's awesome.

That's how you know it isn't a soccer show, it doesn't suck like soccer does.

You're absolutely right but in England its:
- Your Football Club
- Your Country
- Your King/Queen
- God
In that order.
Its still a great show, and its not about the games, they could have picked any sport and done the 'fish out of water' routine. They even joke about it when Higgins hands Rebecca a list of candidates to replace Ted and he says something like:
"I even included a Basketball coach from New Zealand."
And one of the things I tell people is that one of the most well acknowledged coaches in North America, Vince Lombardi, coached Basketball for a few years. A sport he knew nothing about.
What I like about Ted Lasso is that Rebecca deliberately hired Ted because he didnt know anything. She was trying to take something her cheating ex-husband loved and RUIN it! And that was her strategy. And then she grew to love it too and her strategy kind of blew up in her face by Ted turning out to be awesome.

Essentially preposterous. But that doesnt make for good TV.
Some of the Soccer scenes are...well most of them are complete nonsense, but I appreciated that they tried. Soccer isn't as filmographic as sports like football or baseball where one play makes all the difference.
I mean, the whole show is about a guy who doesn't know what he's doing but succeeding at it anyways.
I love the show. The on-field play bits and table rankings? Yeah. They're unrealistic, but its just a show. I appreciate that they tried.
They can fire Keely into the Sun though. Bring in her assistant. I liked her! She liked blood and violence!

Yeah, Nate is great. I really like Nate and I liked his story-line because as a former coach I can empathize with it.
The pressure to win and winning becomes everything? It takes a lot of mental fortitude to break that mentality. I fell into that trap once myself and it took a lot of effort to step back and...'winning isn't everything. Stop thinking that it is.'
Ted exemplifies that, but for a guy like Nate? From Kit Boy to Assistant Coach to Manager of a big club and to willfully choose to go back to Kit Boy? That takes a lot of courage.
I also really liked Ted having anxiety issues and panic attacks and they didn't glorify or vilify them, its just part of the gig. When you're under that much pressure all the time? Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt.
Beard is the best and Roy Kent is a great foil. With knowledge and experience but he's 'Old School' and that doesnt work all that well anymore whereas Beard was always willing to learn and adapt and support Ted.
I lived that, albeit at a much lower level, but it makes a lot of sense to me because Ted and I have a similar ethos. Its not 'all about winning.' You want to win, but its not the be-all-end-all, you care about the people you coach and want to make them better.
In my case it was kids, in his case its Pros. The show just resonates with me.

Yes. The actual sport is of, like, tertiary importance in this show lol.

Did I get an AFC Richmond jersey as a gift? I did.
Why?
They're 'the Greyhounds.'
