Kings look like a much better team than they were last year. They’re also healthy this time and they definitely have the edge in defence and goaltending. I predict they’ll Finally break the curse this year.

Speaking of causal oiler fans I ranted about earlier- My Edmonton-residing (sorry all) father-in-law (casual hockey fan) with his yearly ‘so will you cheer for the oilers now?’ tonight …. I told him there’s a better chance I’d ever wear a MAGA hat than cheer for the oilers’. Neither will ever happen, but I got the reaction from him after that I was looking for . Then proceeded to ask me why I hate the oilers so much, again . Good lord. It’s called a rivalry, and I’m a born and raised calgarian of 47 years. Why don’t some people ever get it?

Honestly, I think I’d have a healthy disdain for the Oilers even if I wasn’t a Flames fan.

True enough, so many people asked me last year if i was cheering for the Oilers because they are a canadian team, and everytime i need to remind them that i would sooner put myself in the middle of a bukkake circle than cheer for them. they look puzzled. not sure why it is so hard to get. "supposed" Flames fans i know were cheering them on, i would always have to remind them they arent flames fan. .

Maybe the quizzical look was about bukkake circles being low on your list; oiler fans and all.

I was also prepared for the “too bad for the flames…go oilers go right?” At a get together. I led with “have I ever needed validation by asking you to support my team?” Followed by “I can’t tell which Canadian team I hate the least, but I know the most hated.” I got a grumble of “you haven’t changed” which was meant as a criticism but I said “thanks.”

I followed up with a few of my favourite baits such as “if, the Oilers lose, they have to fire knobby…right? And that’s McDavid’s coach, so does it make it double unlikely that McDavid re-signs?” And “should the Oilers force McDavid to take less money so they don’t get hollowayed again?”

By consensus, these oilers fans believe that goaltending and defence will define their playoffs but “the Oilers couldn’t play with all of their injuries” hence 3rd place in division.

I wish I had thought of bukkake circle.

At my parents for Easter and all the family and friends here are Oil gobblers because of the 80s and it’s clear that all of this brainwashing is due to the ring leader Ron Maclean. They should all have MAGA style hats so I can see them coming easier.

Just saw the earlier post that team ‘go oilers’ will be the broadcast team. Why?? Is there any other nhl team that gets their home fanboy broadcast team? If the kings win the series I hope monster truck, greaseball Gene and Homer Louie have to be the kings broadcast team through the rest of sportsnet playoffs.

Last years Van vs Edm series was one of the grossest couples weeks of my life as a hockey fan being out here in BC. It really brought to light how little Canucks fans (at least the ones I hang out with) are aware the rest of league. I actually had people assuming I'd be cheering for the Oilers because they're a 'Alberta team'..... Then I told them I was cheering for a meteor strike to hit the arena.
