I agree with you that Andersson will probably be traded, though it might not happen until he has a chance to show that he's recovered from the injuries that cramped his style so badly this year.

One problem I see the Flames having is too many young D all about the same age looking for and probably ready for a spot.

Loved the effort all season, the franchise has gone through some very tough years but the culture seems to have been set and the foundation is being cemented. Gonna be a long summer, see you all at the draft! Go Flames

We will find out tomorrow what ailed him. With the number of blocks he made this year it may be multiple injuries.
A rough +/- for sure. But still substantial value as a top 2-3 right shot D at 2.275 mill retained for this season in his prime.

Agreed. If 8/9 tie, awarding one team the spot on a technicality just seems shortsighted. Especially when the tiebreaker is basically which team played less tiebreakers to begin with.
They have a long drawn out regular season, they can afford the time for a 1 game playoff before they start the first round.
The Oilers series isn’t even starting until Monday. Could have had a play-in game Saturday and then have the winner start their series Monday too.
Gah.

For 2 decades plus some years on me the motto has always been get at least 96 points and that's will get you to the dance . Got 96 points and no dance. What a weird year to be alive.

All the rookies were solid. Parekh was unbelievable, he has to make the team next year.
I really feel like we finally have some elite talent. You can tell the potential is through the roof with how he was playing.

Team record in the hardest part of the season is such a pleasant surprise (10-2-3). Team will be even hungrier next year if most of the vet core of 7 are back. Wolf also likely to play 60-65 games. I suspect we are right in the fight next year for playoff spot as well.
I do think the showing from Parekh tonite and also Brz will give Conny more confidence that he can move Ras in offseason at max trade value retained rather than paying him the big bucks for next 8 years. R side of D core seems well in hand.
Hats off to you Flames on an A+ effort almost every night! A season we will always remember.
|
Trading Rasmus before next season is a must.
If you go into the season with Rasmus, you know they won’t trade him as they will be in the hunt for the playoffs. They will be walking him to UFA.
Another reason you have to trade him is all the right side defense depth. Parekh looks like he can play next season. Brz looks like he’s no more than a year away. Plus you have Mews who could see long term deals for Weegar and Rasmus plus Parekh and Brz and opt for free agency instead as there really isn’t much opportunity.
Conny MUST trade Rasmus this offseason. DO NOT extend Rasmus, he won’t age well.

Flames not only finish ahead of some eastern playoff teams, they'd actually be 3rd place divisional seed in the Metropolitan, ahead of the Devils.
Insane that they don't get playoffs

That's the way to end an unbelievable 1st season re-tool. I never expected The Flames to be in a race for a playoff position.
I'm excited for the future. Can't wait for next season.
Cheers boys!

So if we had a better record than the Panthers, would we have kept our 1st? A lot of freaking pain if that's the case, missing the playoffs by one point and missing keeping a mid 1st by 2 points.

It is insane the NHL doesn’t have tiebreaker games - not just because the Flames are the team tied
A Friday night do or die for 2 tied teams when there’s no other hockey on ? Everyone would be watching
Maybe it’s a stadium situation since arenas get used for other events / teams and need to be booked in advance ?

Very happy with the young guys making NHL debuts for the Flames. Hunt looked great too wouldn't mind him back as a depth piece for the organization. Happy for Vladar to finish strong. Looking forward to next season.
