Seeing the rookies play well in a NHL game, the Flames did everything in their power to get into the dance and the fact we don't own our first round pick this year.
Definitely stings but we still pick twice in the first round and we have a lot to look forward to in the near future

Do the Wildcard races this year with Columbus and Calgary getting spurned and the league now having 32 teams indicate that we need a play-in week implemented?
Cause wow, two teams were seriously short-changed this year.
Columbus rattled off 6 straight to close the season.
TBH I don't love having a play-in every season.
But I do think that if two teams finish tied on points for the 8/9 spots then there should be no tiebreakers on that.
If you're tied on points for the 8/9 seed then you should have a play in game.

I like that idea, but the taste in my mouth would be just as bad if the Flames got 1 point tonight and finished with 95.
There needs to be a crossover playoff rule. If you finish 9th and have at least 3 more points that the 8th place finisher in the other conference, you take the playoff spot of that team.
"Oh but travel and owners and blah blah blah" I don't want to hear it.

Think NHLPA/GMs would vote for or against a crossover?

Making the #1 seed in the other conference potentially have to fly across the continent in the first round?

I don't know, but I'm dead certain the owners would vote against it because of the travel costs. I believe that was why they got rid of 1-16 league-wide seeding after the 1980-81 season and went with divisional playoffs instead.

5 Right shot forwards…
This can’t be the Los Angeles Kings team
Quote:
Interesting third line.
Quote:
hope lines 3 and 4 get most of the minutes
and DD doesn t play 25 min imo
Quote:
Had to pull Kempe out of the lineup kicking and screaming I bet.
Quote:
I get not playing the big guns so they don't get injured, but I'm hoping for a win because it will break the franchise record and that's neat!
Quote:
A win would be neat for the trivia fans.
Quote:
It's that time of the year where all Oil haters come out of the woodwork to cheer for LA.
I for one welcome our honorary Kings fans. It's a wee bit endearing. Except for Nucks fans. They are delegated to the #### chair, but nonetheless still welcome I guess
Quote:
This game has no importance. Kings should sit their star players because injuries are more important to prevent. Best to go into playoffs as healthy as possible.
Father and Son
Quote:
Taylor Ward playing means this is the first father-son duo to play at least one game for the LA Kings. His dad is Dixon Ward, who played for the Kings in the 90s.
My dumbass thinking, who in the hell in our current roster is this guy's father?
Quote:
oh how do I make this joke without getting in trouble.....
here is my best attempt.
You maybe have a 15-18 year window for that to happen
So, It would have to be one of those teenage kids who hook up and with their teachers and she in love and keeps the child before she goes to jail
Quote:
Taylor Ward, from leadoff hitting for the Angels to scrubbing for the Kings!
Naz breaks the Ice

meh 1st. King's phoned it in and the coach know it .
Quote:
booo.
0-1
Quote:
Hiller not happy with our first period.
Quote:
These two calling the game are completely lost. They have no clue what they’re saying
Quote:
Looked like our first period last game with Seattle.
Morton’s First!
Quote:
Congratulations, Sam Morton. Welcome to the NHL, kid.
Quote:
Meh, not looking like the boys have their heads in this one. Ward had a good chance
Quote:
Might be good to lose and look inept
Can have a few good days of practice and focus for the diving coilers
Quote:
Yeah, I think I can imagine the rest of the game in my mind. No need to watch.
Quote:
well this game is dumb
Quote:
The 2nd worst disaster these firefighters have seen all year
Quote:
What the #### that last goal was ridiculous. The ####ing ref blocked the kings defender from getting into the game and helping defending that two on one.
Quote:
After that shift, please go wrap QB in bubble wrap and stick him in the lockerroom for the rest of the game.
Parekh’s First!
Quote:
Calgary player Parekh sounds like a name you’d hear on the movie set Dune.
Quote:
I guess the Kings just felt charitable and giving everyone their first NHL goals?
Quote:
Still waiting for a good forecheck cycle from the Kings
Quote:
Kings are just cruising around playing pick up hockey rn..:I’m ok with that
Quote:
It's been pretty much all Flames
Quote:
Too many turnovers and passed up shots...
Quote:
The Flames really had our number this year.
A Bit of Help from No Save Dave
Quote:
Ooof
Heres hopin the oilers dont run kuemper
Quote:
Wow. Dave thinking about golf already.
Quote:
Dave must have bet the over.
Quote:
Dave has given up 10 goals in 2 games
Quote:
That was Rittichulous
Quote:
Playoff Rittich after Kane or Perry take Kuemper out of the series in Game 1 is gonna go so hard.
Quote:
Rittich might be the worst goalie in the NHL
Quote:
2 for 5. Rittich is dog excrement.
Quote:
no cassie, rittich was off his angle there not a deflection
Quote:
Jesus Rittich is bad.
Quote:
And I was getting roasted for saying we'd be a lottery team with Rittich as our starter.
Quote:
Can’t have Clarke and Big Dave on the ice at the same time.
Quote:
I mean atleast 2 of these are not even Rittichs fault. Its just pretty good plays by flames
Quote:
Came home it was 1-0.
Showered then took my kid a bath. I checked the score again, and it's 5-1.
Quote:
The Flames are a good team, better structured and more consistent than Montreal and Vancouver, you send a "B-team" you'll get 5-1
Quote:
So that was technically a game that took place on ice with skates and stuff I guess. Good for Ward. Literally everything else forgettable.
Quote:
Out of all the games the Kings have played this season, this game, for sure, is one of them.
Quote:
Tighten up, David. Jeepers.
Quote:
Not great Dave. We won't be seeing that in the playoffs at least.

I liked seeing solid games from the veterans tonight as well. They looked like they were having fun and I think it sets a good example. Vladar was solid as well.
Any news on Klapka? I didn't really see what happened there.

Frustrating to go 96 pts and not be in. Seeing the 4 rooks excel tonite was the silver lining. Huge for their offseason prep and development.
Team record in the hardest part of the season is such a pleasant surprise (10-2-3). Team will be even hungrier next year if most of the vet core of 7 are back. Wolf also likely to play 60-65 games. I suspect we are right in the fight next year for playoff spot as well.
I do think the showing from Parekh tonite and also Brz will give Conny more confidence that he can move Ras in offseason at max trade value retained rather than paying him the big bucks for next 8 years. R side of D core seems well in hand.
Hats off to you Flames on an A+ effort almost every night! A season we will always remember.

Not totally certain Razzy Andy is at max trade value at -38 or whatever he was.
