For some reason this isn't that painful for me.

Seeing the rookies play well in a NHL game, the Flames did everything in their power to get into the dance and the fact we don't own our first round pick this year.

Definitely stings but we still pick twice in the first round and we have a lot to look forward to in the near future

Cause wow, two teams were seriously short-changed this year.

Columbus rattled off 6 straight to close the season.
TBH I don't love having a play-in every season.

But I do think that if two teams finish tied on points for the 8/9 spots then there should be no tiebreakers on that.

If you're tied on points for the 8/9 seed then you should have a play in game.

I could get behind that.

I like that idea, but the taste in my mouth would be just as bad if the Flames got 1 point tonight and finished with 95.

There needs to be a crossover playoff rule. If you finish 9th and have at least 3 more points that the 8th place finisher in the other conference, you take the playoff spot of that team.

"Oh but travel and owners and blah blah blah" I don't want to hear it.

I wholeheartedly agree.

No RW/ROW totals shouldn't decide a season if you're tied after 82 games. Hockey should decide it.

Think NHLPA/GMs would vote for or against a crossover?

Well, that was much more of a season than I'd expected. Already looking forward to next season, and seeing where the Flames go from here!

Making the #1 seed in the other conference potentially have to fly across the continent in the first round?

I don't know, but I'm dead certain the owners would vote against it because of the travel costs. I believe that was why they got rid of 1-16 league-wide seeding after the 1980-81 season and went with divisional playoffs instead.

1 vs. 16 is what I would like...it would be worth the reward to play the actual worst playoff team

I liked seeing solid games from the veterans tonight as well. They looked like they were having fun and I think it sets a good example. Vladar was solid as well.

Any news on Klapka? I didn't really see what happened there.

Frustrating to go 96 pts and not be in. Seeing the 4 rooks excel tonite was the silver lining. Huge for their offseason prep and development.

Team record in the hardest part of the season is such a pleasant surprise (10-2-3). Team will be even hungrier next year if most of the vet core of 7 are back. Wolf also likely to play 60-65 games. I suspect we are right in the fight next year for playoff spot as well.

I do think the showing from Parekh tonite and also Brz will give Conny more confidence that he can move Ras in offseason at max trade value retained rather than paying him the big bucks for next 8 years. R side of D core seems well in hand.

Hats off to you Flames on an A+ effort almost every night! A season we will always remember.

Well strong finish to the season for the Flames. Their second half record was tied for 6th in the entire NHL.

Fun to see Morton get a goal, and looking forward to what Parehk will be next season.

Not totally certain Razzy Andy is at max trade value at -38 or whatever he was.
