Expecting him to be the best defenceman on the team through next season is not nearly as crazy as expecting him to be the best defenceman in his very first game or even week.

Nobody expected him to come in and be the saviour. Our PP was crap, and a young player with his pedigree would have provided a boost.
It;s been talked about by a bunch of teams how when a young guy gets in the lineup is provides some excitement to the team.
But if it fits your narrative he will be the big injection next year, sure.

Looking back at how Honzek got injured at the beginning of the season, I wonder if Parekh “strong” enough to play in the NHL on a regular basis, or if he needs to put on more muscle/strength to handle NHL competition?

Honzek had been battling injury problems going back to his last year with the Giants iirc. Not sure that will be as much of an issue with Parekh.

I think the Flames were stuck.
They got more out of a team than expected. Were winning. They didn't want to torpedo their 3rd pairing and rely on a guy with a broken foot to play 30 minutes by bringing in a guy that needs to learn the defensive side of the puck at the NHL level.
So the 11/7 option was the only path, but ...
Klapka pops and moves up the roster, meaning they'd likely have to take out Lomberg to fit him in which would be like an exorcism to the team culture.
I'm glad they kept winning, which will keep the second guessing down to all but the most silly contingent of arm chair quarterback.

Parekh said that prior to camp he did not spend much time in the gym however this year he was the in the gym 2-3 times a week
Seems like the Flames had input and he seems like a guy that gets it

All this Coleman talk is reminding me of Frolik.
I'm not saying they are the same player or that Coleman is about to fall off a cliff the way Frolik did but we need to be honest when looking at the makeup of the team or else mistakes can be made in order to keep an aging asset.
Tre bridged Tkachuk to keep Frolik around. Like I said not saying these two things are the same other than needing to look at things more objectively.
How many LS wingers do we have on the team and in the system?
How many spots do we have available?
It really isn't that hard to see that we have too many wingers. Farabee was on the 4th line and Zary wasn't even dressed.
Who makes the most sense for a rebuilding team to move on from while there is still value in his game?
We aren't moving Coronato, Huberdeau, Sharangovich, Zary or Klapka. Moving newly acquired Farabee seems far fetched as well. Lomberg and Pospisil can be the makeup of the 4th line so they don't really matter for the purposes of this discussion.
Who does that leave?
This isn't about not wanting to keep Coleman per se. It's just the realistic cycle of a team in our position.
We have Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund, Weegar and potentially Andersson, depending on if he re-signs, who, most of which, play more imperative positions, since we don't quite have the same organizational depth of NHL ready C and D, to be our veteran leaders.

Think that the Flyers will trade for Andersson.
They have a terrible culture at the moment and need someone that can fill the second pair slot, but more important bring in leadership, drive, and character.
Flyers have 4 second round picks.
I think that 2 of those 4 picks are sent to the Flames along with Denver Barkey.
Flyers are trying to develop a bigger core so will move out a smaller forward in Barkey and will focus on bigger skilled players in the draft.
Flames will take a chance that Barkey can translate his offense from the OHL and will welcome his hard work and high character approach to the game.
Flames will then make a deal with the Stars sending either Solovyov or Kuznetsov to them along with a second round pick for Bourque.
I see the Flames drafting Reschny and Nesbitt their their first two picks and taking Horcoff in the second. Centers that belong in the ranges they are getting picked so they are not reaches but they help the Flames to fill in their biggest gap in their prospect base.

I think that internally the decision might come down to Coleman and Farabee. Age, cost, role, and return. Maximizing that decision might dictate who they move.

That's fair and I've heard the guys on the fan talk about Farabee's game being similar to Coleman's and that perhaps he will be his replacement so that makes some sense.

|
The last thing this team needs right now is another winger jamming up the lineup. My thought is that Conroy should be looking to use some of the wingers as trade chips to try and acquire a C.
At this point, if there is a spot for a winger then instead of Mantha I would rather see what Stromgren or Honzek can do but right now it looks like Klapka may have earned the spot.

If Coleman continues to decline next season I don't see any team trading for the 26/27 year of his contract. If the Flames have an opportunity to move him, they should strike while the iron is hot.

Ya I don't see a future here for Mantha at all. With the emergence of Coronato, Klapka and Zary, plus adding Farabee we have more than enough wingers. Too bad he wasn't a center, would be nice with his size if he was a Kopitar lite type of player. Saw enough of him during his few games that he didn't really impress much at all, seemed to be a passenger a little too often.

Backlund is getting old, and his play is going to start to taper off, it is time for the safety valve be taken away from the team.
The younger guys need to step up and be the vets going forward.
Thinking this is a playoff team, and there is a lot of progression left next season would be a big miscalculation.
You already have Dino talking about Parekh like he will win the Norris, while he has been vehemently against him being put in the lineup these last 4 games because he isn't ready for the NHL.
We also don't have much in the pipeline in terms for skilled forwards, obviously at center.
|
I wasnt against putting him in I was against you freaking out for no reason. Team was winning and kept their lineup the same. You never owned your embarassment comment...looks like the Flames will play their guy and the Wild wont. Huh
You are the one who did a 180...he needed to be added immediately but now cant help the team next year?
Full summer of training, camp, not jumping right into do or die. It apples and oranges.

I like Klapka. I was disappointed to hear Jason Bukula the other day when he said on Kyper and Bourne that Klapka was only a “four”. Meaning he’s only a fourth liner. Wasn’t high on Klapka at all.

I don’t think Farabee is movable with his contract . He was the salary dump included if we wanted Frost IMO
