Good to see the linesman figured out something was wrong and aid him off ice. That was scary to see, him struggling to breathe on the bench. Also though heart, but glad to hear it might be puck to throat and there be a clear non serious reason.

The dome was rocking tonight. Lombo's goal blew the roof off. Here we come playoffs.

Flame would hold a divisional playoff spot if they were in the Metropolitan division. Yet over here they are still 3 points put of a friggin wildcard spot.

I hate this league sometimes.

As a life-long Flames fan, but someone whose favourite player was Marc Andre Fleury, I was so happy to see the standing ovation from the C of Red. I made the following post to Facebook linking the ovation video.

For context for those that don't know. I live and grew up in Sydney, NS. Our QMJHL team is the Cape Breton Eagles, who Fleury played junior for and his number is retired in the rafters of Centre 200.

* * * * * * * * * * * *

When looking at games to take my oldest to his first (and likely only) game in the Saddledome, this game was circled.

I never got to see Fleury play in the NHL live, but I couldn't count the games I've seen him play in junior, here at home and rinks across the Maritimes. Not to mention being in person to see him play for team Canada at the World Juniors and in the CHL Prospects game.

There may have been an adult beverage or two consumed together at Smooth Herman's or the Capri.

I'll never forget what he said to me after the CHL Prospect Game in Kingston, Ontario during a post-game autograph session: "What are you doing here?!??!"

Fleury's always been my guy, my favourite player, since he was 16 and I was 18.

The Flames have been my team since I was 7.

Alas, life got in the way and the trip out didn't happen. When we make the trek it'll be for longer than a day or two, if for nothing else so my son is actually awake for the game. The red eye flights plus an 11pm ADT start time wouldn't have worked.

That said, proud of the C of Red here. Surreal that it's for the kid I used to watch play at Centre 200.

I think if I could be anyone in the world for a day, I pick Lomberg on a day he scores a goal like that. There may be greater joy somewhere in the world, but I kinda doubt it.

That’s as good as I’ve seen the flames play for so long I cannot remember.

Just walking up to the Saddledome had a playoff vibe to it.

The standing ovation for Lomberg was unexpected and spectacular.

Until the end Calgary allowed them nothing. No second chances.

That makes sense. If that's about a 60% chance of the flames, blues, or miinny winning any single game. I'd say above 50% as all three are desperate and many of the teams the are playing suck.

.6^3 x (1-.6^4) = 18.8%

That second term represents the odds of both the blues and minny winning all four games left amongst them. That would eliminate the flames and about an 87% chance of that not happening.

Obviously the odds on any single game aren't exactly 60%.

The Captain was the best player in the most important game of the year.

The Wild weren’t good at all. How are they in a playoff position?

they were 3rd in the league at Thanksgiving and 4th overall at ~midway point of the season, so they collected a lot of points early.

Flames at 90 points now which is quite a feat given the expectations this year.

At the trade deadline the target was oscillating between 89 and 91 points, which they would have achieved easily as it turns out.

Blues came along and they likely need 96

Yeah even if they end up missing the playoffs you can't really be mad with how they played.

At the time of the 4 nations they were in 9th place with a .545 points percentage and Canucks were on 8th with a .573.

In the 24 games since then they've went 12-6-6 in what was largely the toughest part of their season, and put up a .625 point percentage.

They did their part to make the playoffs down the stretch.

The only problem is the Blues went 18-4-2 in the same time period, and are still only 3 points up on the Flames.

And the Flames have had some real weird bad luck with goals being called back in games that could've made their record even better in that 24 game stretch.
