I know that +/- isn’t always a completely legitimate stat, but the sheer order of magnitude difference of -111 is meaningful.

Sure, maybe they are burdened by the Mavi/pissy jump off the ice when the puck leaves the offensive zone +/- effect, but it’s still a decent indicator of defensive performance.

Emberson is the poster child for how ridiculous people get with fancy stats. Here's a guy that is a replacement level player, but had some really good fancy stats last year (big woop).
