Yeah - everything tends to reasonably balance out eventually.
- Individual shooting percentage unsustainably high - a few more goals
- Secondary assist rate unsustainably low - a few less assists
- All situation on-ice shooting percentage right in line with career average - total points right about where they should be.
The only other caution is 37% of his points coming on the powerplay which is quite high for a forward and likely bound for some mean reversion is the coming years. But smaller impact - 2 or 3 points.
In any event, disappointing to see him disappear the last 10 days.

Hello 9th in the west my old friend.

He didn't lose a first rounder. It's a swap of picks that could end up being relatively small.

We all knew this was coming. "Mushy middle."
You can probably go back to early season predictions and there they are.

It's such a repetitive and tiring narrative that completely ignores all the clear reasons why this season isn't like past seasons, and doesn't warrant that level of fan malaise.

Yeah at this point the Flames are Joe Pesci in the grave with the dirt coming down hot and heavy.
The pessimist in me sees a team that's missed the playoffs three straight years and has Parehk to show for it and likely two picks in the late teens or early 20's this year.
Coronato and Wolf both look like really good future pieces, and to me Zary is a decent piece but more 4 to 6 forward material. Klapka could be intriguing, but more of a support part. So in a way...you are waiting for the 2026 draft as your chance to start adding a top line talent to a group sorely lacking and it might be a decade until this team makes the playoffs again at this pace.
The team generally played hard, but they lacked the horses to really play with better teams. Until they're willing to start trading more veterans with term left on their contracts it's going to be a really long rebuild with limited upside.

Why would you call a time out just because the other team scored one goal?
Or do you mean after the game tying goal?

How do you figure that? A swap would mean we would be getting a pick in return wouldn’t it? Either way we were losing a draft pick, now we have to lose our best pick on the year.

I'm just glad it's not pick 11, and that Jersey and Florida haven't performed as well as many thought.
Take the small wins.
Oh and Kadri's value is in the equation too if you're balancing things out.

What is falling into place is the continuation of bubble hockey.

I think Anaheim will be a playoff team as early as next season. The Sharks might be Oiler like flashy that scores more. But the Ducks are starting to round out a bit here with a couple of decent young defenceman they have. We might see the 2006 to 2017 years play out again with these two teams in short order.

I think he means swap with Florida's. Yes, they give up their highest pick but the gap might not end up being as far as we thought and they get a similar player. They might even get the player they would have drafted anyway like with Zary.

If you want to include Kadri into the mix it would be silly to not include Monahan as a counter point. Monahan has been a PPG player (~50 games) and is only 11 points back of kadri in 28 fewer games, plus the benefit of being younger.
I wouldn’t really call anything this year a win, no playoffs, no high first round pick, no high end forward prospects, Frost and Farabee havent been producing, at least we had stellar moments from Wolf and the Parekh question mark. This season was just a wash.

Monahan was a UFA . So I don’t think it should “count” per se
Of course if they kept him they prob resign him but it feels the 2 parties had chose to separate

Not really. Flames could have signed Monahan if they wanted and even after his first season in Montreal. That trade stopped when Monahan’s contract stopped

The NHL needs to consider allowing 10 teams per conference to qualify for the playoffs. Especially since it is clear the NHL plans to expand to 34 teams. Too many competitive teams with winning records finding themselves on the outside looking in.

For sure.
The Monahan asset is gone. Period.
But they moved him with a 1st to sign Kadri and they still have him.
Monahan was a UFA in a year and likely gone anyway. Now if they didn't deal Monahan does he have the same season and get dealt to Winnipeg for a 1st? Or does he play a limited role and not get traded at all?
Now it's rabbit hole time!

That actually doesn’t make the point you think it makes, using your thought process here we could have kept our first rounder and Monahan (without kadri) and be in (IMO) a way better position to be in than where the team sits right now.
I think the Monahan to MTL trade was awful from Treliving, and Conroy did no favours this year with his inaction at the deadline. That inaction from Conny makes me think he lacks direction or the fortitude to execute it.

Exactly.
Worst case scenario was giving MTL the #11 pick and then receiving the 28-32 pick from FLA. We don't know yet what their pick will be, but they aren't winning the division, so unless they go to the conference finals, it will be in the 20-22 range.
So we are likely looking at a deficit of 5 or 6 picks vs our own (as opposed to 18-20). Small price to pay for a season that had a LOT of positives, including a goalie that is emerging into a potential star.

After dealing a third of his team the previous year?
Come on ...
He set prices and they weren't met.
He honoured no trade clauses.
Plenty to be upset about in this world without fabricating new ones.
