Mature beyond his years. I'm so glad we have such a promising young player like him in our organization.

I STRONGLY believe not only will be have a Quinn Makar level d-man, we will have Makar as captain of the Flames when new building opens.

Anyway. I'm not arguing with 20 different people about this. It was an over the top sarcastically snide comment (snidely sarcastic?) coming from a place of frustration from a guy having a more-depressed-than-usual day.
I'm sure I'll be "lol-ing" again tomorrow, but in the mean time, get the #### off my lawn.

Also, let's not forget about the plethora of roster spots created by the mass exodus of all our talented players wanting out. Johnny, Chucky, Hanifin, Lindholm, Tanev. Even our beloved captain was done with this team until we offered him the C.
I would have thought all those open spots would lead to a whole bunch of rookies in the lineup, but we still sent them all back down and filled those spots with Rooney and the gang of free agent 4th liners.
Yeah Zary and Pospisil eventually got called back up and stuck with the team, but that was because of injuries. It's not like we actively decided to play rookies. We signed aging 4th liners, and then called up rookies when they got hurt (we had no cap space to sign more vets).
Every single roster decision that resulted in us getting younger and/or better has been forced upon us against our will. Conroy's done an admirable job getting what he can in return, but with an owner mandate of "two home playoff games a season" there's only so much he can do.
|
The philosophy of the Flames and the NHL the last 15years has been to over develop prospects before they make the NHL. Zary, Coronato, Andersson, Mangiapane, Dube, and Pelletier come to mind as recent players who needed multiple extra years in junior and the AHL before they made the NHL full time. An 18/19 year old needs multiple years in development before their ready. What is so controversial about this? The NHL is not a development league.
No NHL team will have multiple young rookies on their team at once. The numbers back it up.
From the 2023 draft, of the 224 players drafted, 4 players made their respective team the following season, and an additional 2 needed an extra year in development before jumping in. All players were drafted within the top 13 picks. From the 2024 draft, only Celebrini has made the jump without any additional development. The consensus across the NHL is that every year 1-6 players will make the their team from the last 2 draft (top 0.5% - 2.5% of players). Put another way, 98% of players need 2years+ in additional development to make the NHL, if they make the NHL at all.
So no, when you say, "I would have thought all those open spots would lead to a whole bunch of rookies in the lineup, but we still sent them all back down and filled those spots with Rooney and the gang of free agent 4th liners" nobody in the league does what your suggesting.
As for Parekh, regardless if he plays in the remaining games, I would say that while his changes are good, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't make the team next year. He's got some pretty stiff competition from a number of our AHL prospects.

Flames will get their pyjama guy?
Makar kind of owes us this after terrorizing us since 2019.
After pounding his hometown he needs to come back and help it.... to a cup.

Makar and his wife are from Calgary so it makes sense to come home for next contract and build the home team he grew up cheering for. 28year old stud d-man. Signs contract and with his experience who wouldn’t have him as the captain.

I got what you were laying down. Everyone of my friends is so much more deeply cynical about this team than you are, so I got a chuckle.
Bellletstalk until people are deeply cynical as hell about things. Gee what a depressing way to look at life. No schit buds. Turn that frown upside down and take cold showers. You hat will cheer up your flames outlook.

Could be wrong but I think Parekh just indirectly threw a little shade at Dave Cameron in his interview. Paraphrasing a bit: he said he struggled to start the season but he doesn't know what happened around the 2nd quarter of the season but he started to get going after that.

Man I can feel it, Parekh is gonna be a stud. Sets the record for most points for an OHL Defenseman in the last 25 years with 107 pts.
Also fun fact while I was looking back at this stat... Rasmus Anderson lead the OHL in points by a D in 2015-16 (60pts).
There's some pretty good defensemen who top that list when you look back.
Dougie Hamilton
Ryan Ellis
John Carlsson
PK Subban
Drew Doughty
Alex Pietrangelo
Mark Giordano
Dan Girardi
Denis Wideman
Bryan Berard
