Hell, even if he plays very sheltered minutes and gets some prime PP time, he's unquestionably adding a skillset the team doesn't have. The kid's got confidence in spades, now see what he can do.

He's also never played against pros and you'd be throwing him in in must win games that even a single mistake can be the difference between ending the season or not. At least let the kid have a full practice and watch a game sitting next to Conroy so he can digest it a bit

Perhaps, but the upside outweighs the downside.
It's very unlikely they make the playoffs. They are a team that struggles to score, and their PP has been mediocre since forever.
He gives a shot in the arm to exactly what the team is lacking. And if they miss, it won't be because they sat Jake Bean for Zayne Parekh.

Rumours from San Jose is that Zayne has decided to retire. The Flames and fans wanting him to learn the culture on the sidelines, go through a physical, fitness testing, and mental aptitude test along with going through a training camp by himself was too much.

Yeah let him play games, also let him take a practice or a skate, and let him watch some team video with his D partner. This isn't beer league.

For a kid like Parekh, likely is. For me or you, or Jesse Puljujarvi, not so much.

You have to put players in a position to succeed. It is crazy talk to me that the same people who complain that the Flames "have no long term plan" want a 19 year old kid to play right away no matter what!
the number one focus should be the player development. the result of this season means nothing compared to that. When Zayne was in preseason games in was pretty obvious he wasn't ready, I don't think it's wrong to give him a little more time.

Honestly, it sounds like such an Oilers thing to do.
Maybe they determine he is ready immediately, or maybe not. But just throwing out there to sink or swim without consideration lacks forethought. I trust that they will make the right decision, whatever it ends up being. But if they determine that he needs a bit of time, it shouldn't be taken as something unfair or unreasonable.
I do hope he is ready and we can see him in action, but I won't be upset if he isn't.

Nope, but often times the best way to figure it out is a little trial by fire.
How do you know where/what needs to be improved without some experience in the position you're hoping to grow into.
Slotting kids into late season games has never had this much debate and consternation. Why is it now?
Was any one concerned about John? No, because he was an elite talent. Parekh is also that.
The down side is maybe you lose off of a mistake or two, and the player gains valuable experience to take with him over the summer. How terrible!
Jesus it's not life or death. And prospects aren't "broken" this way. Not ones with world class ability.

If anyone actually started with saying they'd like to see him in a practice or two first then sure, that I can understand. But questioning is physically and mental preparation going in and saying it would be "irresponsible" to play him is pure nonsesne.
|
You're using a generational talent as the example?
That almost makes the opposite argument as it puts more pressure on him. Additionally Makar was 15 months older.
Look I said above that I'm good with him playing if it's a third pairing ahead of Bean and on the powerplay. Or if they go with 11/7.
But I wouldn't do it tonight without even a pregame skate.
And that's logic again. Not hoops and excuses.

The most recent headlines to do with Parekh were mentioning his goal scoring alongside Bobby Orr. Like it or not, fair or not, people are going to read those kind of headlines and be excited about a potential generational talent joining the club. I don't see that as a huge stretch given the recent headlines.
So comparing him to another generational talent doesn't seem far fetched in that context. Not accounting for how accurate the comparison is.

And I get it.
I want to see him play too. A discussion about wanting to see the kid before the end of the season would be agreed upon by everyone.
It's the crowd that has to find a reason it's malpractice if he doesn't play 44 hours after getting eliminated that drive an argument.

Why the hurry people, he just turned 19 and it's not like he's going to put up 2 PPG and lead the Flames to the promise land.

The Oiler thing would be to force him to play if he said he had a sore neck and would like for a doctor to take a look at it. Than blame him afterwards for not being able to dig in and demand he pay the team to trade him.

Makar was considered a top prospect but not a generational one at the time. That misses the point of what I said and also misses that I named a plethora of other players
