This thread is about trades and rumors...any rumor that improves the Flames being shot down because of some imaginary tank plan that isnt happening is what ruins the thread.

We don’t have any spots for bums like that.

Team is missing a 1st line and they won’t find it in free agency.

lol when was the last rumour posted? Dreaming of signing Marner isn’t a rumour. Bennet hasn’t been connected to the Flames either.

The only way the Flames can tank to a top 5 pick next year IMO is a sophomore slump from Wolf. Or an injury.

Looking at Wolfs career though, it's more likely he improves than regresses.

And if they find a way to improve the team through use of the huge pile of cap space they have, that will also likely make them better.

False. The performance of other teams absolutely can impact our position on the standings.

This season, 4 of the bottom 5 teams in the league are all in the west. We play 4 games against division rivals and 3 games against conference rival and only 2 games against team in the East.

Eyeballing the games against the current bottom 10:

Sharks = W, W, ?, ?
Ducks = W, W, W, ?
Kraken = OTL, W, OTL, W

Blackhawks = W, W, W
Preds = W, W, L

Flyers = W, W
Sabres = OTL, W
Penguins = W, L
NYI = W, W
Bruins = OTL, OTL

37 of the Flames 84 points on the season come from the bottom feeder teams (with 3 games still outstanding). Most of those points came from the bad teams in the West. (Honourable mention that we also farmed 4 points out of our 2 games against NYR before they started rising back into the playoff race, which basically means half of our points came from bottom 10 teams)

If any of those teams in the West take a significant step toward improvement and stop being the easy wins they are today then I think the Flames are highly likely to become the team that drops down and replaces them at the bottom.

Also, unless the Flames can find some more scoring within their roster, they are going to continue to rely heavily on their team defense and their goaltending. Thus, if Andersson is traded then that defense will take a hit and we probably start seeing a bunch of 5-3 losses instead of 3-2 wins.

If Andersson were personally responsible for preventing three goals per game more than a replacement-level defenceman, he would be the greatest defensive player in the history of hockey.

So everybody moves up a spot and the last spot is taken by a replacement-level defenceman. The net effect of this is less than if Andersson's spot were taken by a replacement-level player directly.

However you slice it, it isn't going to make a difference of three goals against per game, or even three goals in any noticeable number of games.

They arent just gonna trade him for a pick and not address the backend...they will have 25M in cap space

This is the speculation part. Flames will have a better roster on paper in October 2025 than they did in October 2024

IMO

Hanley Bean Pachal and Miromanov would be the in the lineup nightly. Andersson can’t handle the extra minutes highly doubt replacement level players would hold up.

I have a feeling the flames would be targeting guys like Bourque, that they can try and get for a 2nd/3rd. I can’t see Conroy risking the first

You specifically said rumours though. Your dreams of signing Marner can fall under speculation

If you had a defence with nothing but replacement-level players, that still would not increase the team's goals against by three per game.

RUMOR: "a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth."

I have said I like Marner as a player...I don't think he is coming here, I think the Flames will talk to him if he gets to UFA.
The Flames are going to try improve their team on paper this summer, not make it worse to tank. Its what is going to happen.

TSN panel was just talking about teams like the Flames and Sharks ironically offering Marner 13-14M just last week, its certainly rumor status. A Bennett offer would suprise nobody.

Only if they had to run with a replacement level goalie at the same time.

I promise you this wont be the case...IF the Flames trade Andersson they will be bringing in Dmen from in and outside the organization.

Zayne, current AHL guy, and a free agent/trade vet Dman...I would be a large sum of money on it. The tank patrol can get mad at me all they want, I'm telling you the Flames will be trying to make the team better not worse.
