Totally understood, and totally fair, but if you choose to, I think there is value in still interacting with those people.
As social interactions have become less physical and more online, we get to pick who we surround ourselves with, and naturally it's more likeminded people. It makes it easy to ignore and hate those that don't think like us.
Physical community is a vital way to change hearts/minds. As a person of colour, you may have a racist neighbour. People are generally less forthcoming in their views of hate in person. You may chat with your neighbour here and there as you're out mowing the lawn or whatever. Those interactions let your neighbour see you as a person, and may be the first step to changing their views.
That said, it could also just be a source of negative interactions for you, so you may say #### that neighbour and just have nothing to do with them, and that's totally reasonable
Absolutely agreed on your point about physical community. And while very admirable, I’d extend this kind of effort if the white moderate would also be willing to do so.
I’m sure most of us have heard of this quote from MLK before:
“ First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

That carney speech was an absolute rocket. If Canada comes out of this with actual global soft power again? Wow.
It's become quite evident that Carney is the only adult running in this election. I was hopeful that he would start bringing the Liberal party back to the Chrétien/Martin mold, and so far that's what I'm seeing. I don't like all of the decisions he's made, his blunders with controversial candidates especially, but from everything I've seen so far he's the only one qualified to lead this country through what may be the most tumultuous decade in our lifetime. So the pros far outweigh the cons in voting for him

Liberal Leader Mark Carney said on Friday that his government would provide an initial $150-million annual funding increase to CBC and Radio-Canada as part of a new mandate for the public broadcaster.
"When we compare ourselves to the U.K., France or Germany, we see that our public broadcaster is underfunded," Carney said in French during a campaign stop in Montreal. "That has to change."
That initial funding top-up could rise, Carney said.
"We expect that in the coming years, we will continue to increase that funding until it can be compared to that provided by other public broadcasters."
Carney also said funding of the CBC and Radio-Canada would be made statutory, meaning any changes would have to be approved by Parliament, not just the government's cabinet.
"Canadians themselves and their entire Parliament must decide on the future of Radio-Canada/CBC — not ideologues," he said.

In these times of mass American ownership of Canadian media (a deplorable situation that needs to be addressed, IMO), keeping the CBC alive and well is incredibly important.

YES - let's stop using the US as our comparison just because they're next door. Applies to so many things.

My in laws are huge Fox News consumers. The first time I saw a segment, I was completely blindsided by its blatant use of fearmongering. My in laws were always so terrible to interact with directly after a segment.

Right or wrong decision/policy - it’s a huge conflict of interest to have a publicly funded media reporting on the election when one side wants to cut funding and the other side wants to increase it.
I wonder where I would lean as a reporter if my job is on the line depending on who wins the election.
I’m not sure what the actual solution is because the funding has to come from “somewhere” .

But US ownership and agenda setting of many Canadian outlets is better?

My buddy's parents consume Fox 24/7.
He says it has put a strain on their relationship.
He lives in California and post Malibu Fires he said their were really tough to deal with.
It's sad, when I was younger they were such kind people.

Hopefully Carney follows through like he says he will and actually makes it statutory. The CBC funding should just be a given and linked to inflation.

I dunno, Pierre could stop threatening cutting Canadian jobs because they say things he disagrees with. The conflict of interest only exists because Pierre exists. Wait, I've got an idea...
Yeah the “huge conflict of interest” (or appearance of) only exists because conservatives have become inappropriately obsessed with demonizing and underfunding Canada’s public broadcaster in favour of more American, and specifically more American Republican media.
It’s a little rich isn’t it? Attack the CBC, and then cry “conflict of interest” because you’re actively trying to make it difficult for them to remain unbiased and how could they possibly report on you fairly while you’re attacking them. Meanwhile, nary a mention of the fact that the National Post, the Herald, the Journal, and the Sun, aka the largest network of Canadian newspapers, are owned by American Republicans. Deep dives into whether certain articles are on the first page or second page of the CBC and why, while Postmedia, with a mandate to be “more conservative” and led by former editors of far right publications like the Western Standard, publishes stories questioning whether Canada even deserves to be a country.
Carney’s solution is, as usual, the correct one out of the given options. Ensure the CBC is not subject to the whims of the ruling party. Canada needs truly Canadian views and content represented.

That is really difficult. I hope you can find common ground in other aspects of your life.
You know it's not really that difficult. I don't hold grudges and typically will look to resolve any relationship issues via apologizing and working things out as nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. I've also never been tainted by religion or any other rigid confines that I can't evolve and change my beliefs over time. I'm old enough that I have lived through the decades of gay discrimination, racism, etc. While I've never been racist or opposed to things like abortion, I was once opposed to gay marriage and long ago I evolved and my beliefs changed accordingly just as in 10 years my beliefs may be different than they are today. I think the world would be a better place if people would stop digging their heels and building divides and seek to be more understanding and better human beings. Humans are inherently imperfect and nothing is ever black & white so it's really frustrating to live in times like this where there seems like such a massive divide between the human population and their beliefs.

Look at what the Conservatives did to Rachel Gilmore, they got her weekly "fact-check" canceled on CTV because they think it's unfair. The US fairness doctrine corrupted all of media to think that you have to present both sides to an issue. The role of journalism is to present facts. If those facts make you look bad, it's more likely because you're doing bad things, but instead the route taken is to attack the journalist as being unfair. Facts are important, any time you see a politician push back against fact checks, you should be alarmed, but we're so hyper partisan now that we can't accept that.
