Well you definitely cherry picked things out of there said by Craig Button, probably the worst judge of talent in hockey history. There was lots of talk of him being generational. Here is one from the score.

The guy broke McDavid's single season point record before COVID.

So, in his last 3 playoffs he is a PPG. Excellent, when you are playing against one of the top 16 teams in the league.
Playoff points historically decrease when the competition gets better.
Few players score more during the playoffs than the regular season.
Playoff beast Patrick Kane did not, although he was reasonably close.
Toews scored more in the playoffs, as did Bolland. But neither was a huge increase.
Sidney Crosby went from a 102 point average to a 92 point average. Malkin 91 to 83.

Every GM in the league trades Parekh for Bedard. He came out of the draft being hailed as the next Crosby/McDavid. He is still young and is producing points at a high level with next to no help on the roster.
Parekh has not played an NHL game yet. We are hoping the skill translates to the NHL. But by no means is he a lock to be a top pairing dman, much less comparing him to Makar.
He could end up being an elite player or he could struggle in the NHL. We do not know yet.

I never once saw a McAvi or Crosby comparison.
Kid has a hell of a shot, he’s a great player. Nobody said that.

Well, you can’t just add up his production from the last 3 years and say he did fine- he did well in 2 playoffs, and sucked in the latest one. Then, he sucked in the previous 3.
He’s almost a perennial whipping boy for Leafs fans in the playoffs, and many of them wanted him traded after last year.

Well, the last 3 years shows a trend that likely trumps earlier years.
The last year of 7 games is quite the small sample size. Overall, his 51 points in 57 games is reasonably good.
And I can add up his last 3 years, I just did LOL.
Now, whether that's a fair way of doing it is very much up for debate.

You know both articles are at the start / near start of the draft eligible season where he fell in rankings by the end right ?
He wasn’t even the top prospect that year let alone a generational pick

Has nothing to do with the fact he was once thought of as a future generational player by some. Most publications had him the top prospect, who had him dropping besides some scouts? Bedard was the top prospect in his draft and touted as generational but I am not convinced he is better than Fantilli as a centre or Michkov as a skill player.

I don’t think dissentowner is as far off as people here are portraying. I do agree every GM likely trades Parekh for Bedard still because of draft pedigree and hype, essentially, but not really based on what’s happened so far in the NHL.
Bedard is -38, good for a last place tie in the entire NHL. There’s a chance he develops into like a good second liner kind of thing. There’s been a few times in history, rare albeit, that first picks don’t turn into the players they are forecasted to be. When you have Crosby / McDavid as your expected career trajectory- that’s a pretty damn tough arc to hit.
I think what people are saying ultimately is it’s too early to make a prognostication about Bedard.
Tough to not be super psyched about Parekh though. I’d still take a chance on Bedard though.

What do we think the Flames could get for Coleman this summer? He feels like the natural candidate to move with Huberdeau, Coronato, Farabee, Zary, Sharangovich, and Pospisil all needing top-nine ice. I wonder if you could get a high 2nd and a prospect for him.

'high 2nd and a prospect' sounds right, he is worth more than the simple 2nd round pick some have suggested.
But I think he is worth more at the deadline - he would be a very low cost add, with retention, and is just the kind of player a contender wants to add. Might get something like a 1st + 3rd if the deadline is drawing decent returns.

Bedard is a stud who is learning hard lessons on a friggin' terrible team. Some of y'all need to stop quoting his stats from the last 2 years as proof of anything. At 19, playing some wing is not a big deal.

I do think Coleman gets traded at some point here, Farabee feels like his replacement IMO
And if you look at the Flames organizational depth the wing is very deep:
Sharangovich - 26 - LH
Farabee - 25 - LH
Pospisil - 25 - LH
Klapka - 24 - RH
Zary - 23 - LH
Coronato - 22 - RH
-----------------------------
Stromgren - 21 - LH
Honzek - 20 - LH
Suniev - 20 - LH
Hoskin - 20 - RH
Gridin - 19 - LH
Basha - 19 - LH
Battaglia - 19 - LH
That's 13 U-26 wingers with 7 prospects that have pretty good cases to become NHLers at some point.

If someone offered that for Coleman i would break a leg running to sign it.

Well, coaches and GMs value players like Coleman more than most fans do. And with retention, he could be had for a salary of about $2.5M - big factor.

Seems like a few posters are caught in a loop here.
Any good trade rumors for the offseason?

We don't even know if we've made the playoffs or not yet- who knows what the offseason plan is. If we do luck into the playoffs here, I suspect we will hear total malarky about rewarding the team by buying hard this offseason.

In the behind the scenes show, they had the management team discussing bringing in a player potentially spending picks, but they didn't know what to do with him because of our glut of wingers. They discussed 1st, 2nd and 3rd but decided on not spending a 1st.
Wonder who the player was. Conroy "I've liked him before"
Also sounded like they were not interested in hockey deal? Would have rather traded picks.

Theres a reason Parekh dropped to 9th. It isn't because 8 other GM's and scouts are all complete idiots (history MAY show them to be)
Parekh went out and had a great season, but effectively he just replicated/slightly outperformed what he did in his draft year, when he was taken 9th.
In a redraft he goes 3rd most likely, maybe 4th - and a lot of that is to do with how the other players regressed/didn't advance
Bedard had the 12th best 18 year old scoring season OF ALL TIME.
Zayne is in the OHL as a 18 year old.
I am excited but Flames fans need to be honest - He is still an extremly high upside but higher risk prospect. That's why he fell to 9th, and why he still wouldn't go 1st in a redraft 1 year later. Its fine to get excited, but if Chicago offered the Flames Bedard for Zayne +++ they are jumping on it every day of the week, unless one of the + is Wolf.
The chances Zayne turns into Makar are much much less then Bedard turning into a 2nd liner

What about Parekh for Celebrini 1 for 1?
