She's from the right wing loony bin, I have no certainty she did know what he was any more than they know who Trump is. I think she's just coming to terms with what he is now.

Buddy of mine thinks (total speculation I think) that Trump’s going to announce elimination of US federal income taxes the day after Liberation Day to generate support for the tariffs and entice Canadians to join them. Loss in tax rev offset by tariffs. Would this make sense in any way shape or form?

Sorry, to be clear, I was saying no it doesn't make sense. Not no it won't happen. There is no relationship between those things.

No, not even close. The last projection I saw (and this was from Trump's people, not an actual economist) suggested that the tariffs would barely pay for the continuation of Trump's 2017 tax cuts. And that assumes the best case scenario for the US where there are no real negative impacts from the tariffs on economic activity, which would reduce government revenue and make them even less effective as a source of revenue.

A shocking 40% of US households do not pay any income tax, and the middle earning households are paying only $10,000 in federal tax per household, so most people would be quite a bit worse off.

Yeah, if they do want to do something like remove income taxes, I suspect it'll be done through selling the federal government off for scraps. Tariffs certainly aren't going to cover the gap.

I think the “projection” (by the Trump admin) was tariffs on everyone bringing in about $6T per year and the federal income taxes based on 2022/2023 look to be about $4-5T so what am I missing? Over simplistic stupidity here I’m sure but help a stupid person out.

I think you might be referring to Howard Lutnick who is the United States Secretary of Commerce. He's at least one of the people that stands behind Trump and laughs.
