The Ironic part is that one of those Young arms which is really coming forward wasn't even drafted by JP (McGowan).
I personally think JP has been given adaquate resources to fix a lot of the problems with the Jays (money in particular), but simply hasn't used them properly and that is his own fault. I mean we lose Gaudin for peanuts to the As last year, and this year we lose Rosario for nothing as well, both of those pitchers were high ceiling guys and while Rosario hasn't developed into anything yet, Gaudin has really flourished.
One of the things I will always be critical of JP with is his inability to pull off trades for whatever reason. The guy has had some bigger deals, which have been successes(Glaus and Overbay for example), but was gunshy for a while since the Prokopec deal caved in - he just doesn't seem to be as active as other GMs - or at least making moves when he really should be making them to address the problems on the roster.
I'll never forget 2002 - where it was clear the jays were going to finish on the outside looking in, and instead of selling off players who were soon to be Free Agents and acquiring prospects/players, he stood by and did absolutely nothing. It was reported (By Bob Elliot, I can find the article if someone needs it) - that for Jose Cruz Jr, who was coming off a year of 34 HRs, he was offered David Wright by the Mets. I wont slander JP for not pulling off the deal (even though Wright was a promising prospect, and high highschool draft pick), but the fact that JP didn't move Jose Cruz, and then refused to offer him Arbitration at the end of the season - and lost him for absolutely nothing - was very very poor asset management.

You F'n moron JP, you f'n moron.
Can't the Jays get through 1 full season without some bs debauchery? Keep that stuff bottled up, don't let it out. Tears the team apart. Idiot.

pretty dumb for good ol JP to pull that crap on the radio. brutal. he loves drama for some reason, you'd think that he'd learn that nothing good ever comes out of it.
in other AL east news, the D-Rays are on a lovely 11 game losing streak. also brutal.

Well, it's a win. not the prettiest, but whatev. halladay with the win, accardo gets the save, and johnson with a stellar grab to save a run in the top of the 9th. pretty important to finish strong heading into the all-star break.

The Johnson catch was amazing but i really liked the Janssen pitch where he stumbled off the mound and put the pitch towards the dugout! also it is good to see that Burnett wasn't to pissed off after JP's comments as he only went on the defensive

yeah, pretty class move there by burnett. taking the high road rather than causing more of an issue of this thing.

Jays losing, but John Macdonald just made, IMO, the play of the year.

Here's an aticle on JP's possible motives for his remarks concerning burnett a couple of days ago. I thought that it was an alright read, pretty obvious stuf, but whatev.

Sam Cosentino is awesome. I love his insight. He was saying that he basically grew up in the Blue Jays' dugout, and he's been around the dome his whole life.
Towers is on fire today. Bottom 6th, he just gave up his first hit in the top half. Unbelievable performance. Pitcher's duel with the score 0-0.

I was shocked at how good the guy was. Absolutely shocked.
Those mid inning butt-ins ala Peter Gammons (who actually does those well) during the season were completely awkward and annoying, but wow, he is a much better color guy than I could have imagined.

Good game. Too bad that Towers couldn't get the much-deserved win, though. Could he be turning the page?
Great clutch pitching by Accardo, too. He got himself in a pressure-cooker situation, but responded by spitting out three strikes in a row.
We'll see how the Blue Jays do against the Red Sox.

Yeah he was quite good wasn't he. And in turn because he was good - Campbell was good. I've always felt bad for the guy who is relatively new to baseball play by play and hasn't been given a full-time partner who is decent.

Ha. Maybe. I just finished watching the tail end of it on MLB.com, so just assumed that it was today. But you may be correct.
