Also sent you a PM.
These kinds of horrible thoughts and feelings can be extremely difficult to overcome. But it can be done. Reach out to any and all people and resources available to you.
When I'm going through times of despair, I always try to balance out the negative feelings by thinking about when times were good, and when good things happened, and the things I'm thankful for. It's how I've gotten through some of the worst times of my life.
Reach out to any of us if you would like to talk.

Thanks, Fotze, I appreciate the compliment. Don't let me fool you though, I am legitimately ######ed. I just have a lot of experience with surviving self-hatred.

Most of us on here would give you the shirt off our backs to help you out though. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about stuff or share stories. I haven't been around CP a bunch over the last few years, being a workaholic and all that... I know this thread isn't about you and I sincerely hope Vinny is doing fine and getting any help they need but I wanted to say I hope you are doing well now Dissentowner. You were always one of the nicest posters here and I always enjoyed our GDT and post win celebrations. I honestly hope you are in a better place and while I am not around often, if you ever need anything PM me and as soon as I see it I will be there in a heartbeat.
Signed: fellow person that has struggled with depression and self esteem issues on and off for many, many years.

I am the same as usual, life is what it is. Thanks for your concern though, I appreciate it and its great when we all come together to show support for one another. I really hope the OP is getting that help. It's hard to escape the darkness once your lost in it.

There is lots of good advice in this post and generally in this thread, the bolded part gets my vote for the best suggestion.
It may sound hokey (I thought so before I tried it), but it really helped me and the best part is that it's free.

Not hokey. Differing situation, but I my best man passed away at a young age few years ago.
In the days leading up the funeral, my grief manifested as stress. Stress about wanting the funeral to go right, my eulogy, stress about how my other friends are holding up, how his family will handle it the day of, etc. I literally felt like the walls were closing in. Of course, it wasn't rational for me to take on all those extra worries, but grief can mess with you.
Walks were the only thing that helped bring the stress down to a manageable level.

You're not wrong on that. Physical activity helps to bump up the production of your brain's feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins.

This really should be a more common thing for many, if not all people.
Also remember: You don't fix the roof in the middle of a storm. Don't wait for the bad times to try and fix the issues.

At the same time, I'm not sure its a panacea or miracle. I'm pretty skeptical but have never been convinced that merely talking about things, framing things, journaling and all that helps a large number of issues. Its like a chiropractor, some people will feel 1% better after and as long as you keep going every week.
I remember thinking it would be this miracle before the first sessions but it was like I kinda felt worse because they are drumming up stuff and peeling off scabs, ending up minimally better. $200/hour after the whopping $500 insurance coverage, the value proposition is quite diminishing.
And there are some big things they really can't help with. You can't journal away pancreatic cancer or some horrible ailment or a gun to your head unless its your own hand holding it.

Seeing a psychiatrist is part of the solution. You should also talk to a therapist.
I like the phrase: "How do you know where you're going if you don't know where you're coming from." To be clear, you need a base of understanding to work from in order to heal.
