I have a hard time describing exactly where the Alcaraz game is at right now. Hard court isn't his strength but there should still be enough of a floor to get him to the quarters/semis regularly at least.

also, former 16 year old ran out of gas finally yesterday, but Andreeva's suddenly a decent bet to pick up a slam this year. Excited to see her game on the dirt soon

I think Mirra got thrown for a loop by Amanda asking for and being granted a MTO for a blister on her hand during a Andreeva service game. Amanda claimed she couldn't hold her racquet thus couldn't play on, but Mirra was making the case that she should wait until the game was completed. I don't know how to feel about this to be honest, if a player is hampered and feels they can't continue, they should be able to get immediate treatment right?

I'm not sure what to think about Charlie, I think he's just going through a little bit of a confidence crisis at the moment. I mean, he did win the Rotterdam tourney in early February but maybe it's a case of we've set the bar for him so high that we expect him to either win or at a minimum make the final of every tourney he enters.
I will say that the unforced errors especially off the forward wing are concerning. Also, his shot selection seems to be questionable of late, he's going for some winners when being more patient and staying in the rally is the more prudent play.

Yeah that would be painful especially when changing grips from forehand to backhand. Almost looks like a cut.

Ugh that was a tough result and a match I had to turn off due to how frustrating it is to watch a player who seems to be just mashing away with no plan.
Despite the year he's having, these types of matches against all types of opponents just continue to dog him. Is there a player in the top 50 that hits more neutral rally errors than FAA? I have a hard time even calling them unforced errors when he doesn't even seem to be attacking when he hits the ball 3 feet wide, 3 feet long or frames it into the stands.
You can have a high ceiling like he does all you want, but it's completely moot when the floor is often outside the top 50 on any given day. Yikes.

Shapo breaks to get back on serve in the opening set serving at 4-5. Playing some great tennis after a sluggish start.
Edit: Shapo with another mini-meltdown and gets broken giving the opening set to Fritz 7-5

Is he arguing about electronic line calls again? He needs to get over that kind of stuff.

Yeah, he was arguing a let call was bad saying his serve cleared the net by a couple of feet.

I'm not sure who's in charge of Tiafoe's conditioning, but he always seem to fade in these physical matches. Nice to see Arthur Fils advance though.

Fonseca takes the opening set 7-5 over De Minaur. The stats look kinda weird as they show only 7 winners to 14 winners for Joao, but he is certainly dictating play and bossing the Aussie around the court.
Edit: De Minaur zips out to a 3-love lead in set 2 though.
Edit 2: It's now 3-3 in set 2

Fonseca won the first two games of set 3 and then De Minaur won 6 of the next 7 games. The Aussie was just relentless pounding on the Fonseca backhand.

Demon Hour is the top 10 gatekeeper. The J-wow backhand isn't even that bad, sometimes he has surprising pop and direction on it. As he matures and gets fitter, he'll find opportunities to run around it and whack inside outs/ins to stop that pattern. I also like that he tried the serve and volley a few times, that can be scary for a teenager.
Now the teen baton is passed to Mensik. And Fils has one job today.
