The TV ad for the CPC I saw tonight is now calling him 'Sneaky Mark Carney'.
I can't believe they're still trotting out these ridiculous nicknames. They might lose the election in large part due to them. They're silly, they're boring and people are sick of them. They feel Trump-y and childish. I can't believe anyone involved with that party's strategy thinks they're a great idea.

This is why the Cons in the 2020s are not a serious party and would have never won even if Trudeau didn't step down. Most of Canada aren't idiot or morons like the rubes in the US or Alberta. This kind of crap won't work here PeePee Le Pew.

Yeah, I keep wondering who those ads are supposed to win over. If they took a more serious tone and just laid out the facts about Carney, they might gain some votes, but these ads just make them look children.
They're also not helping with the Trump parallels. Surprised they didn't call him Crooked Carney just to fully copy Trump's homework.

I just want to see what political parties are going to do for us (and that goes for every political party).
Don't tell me that the other candidate is a jerk, or an a-hole, or the devil, or any other silly insult. I get it........"They're Horrible.......Vote For Me".
Such a pet peeve of mine in all politics right now. Don't tell me how horrible the other person is, tell me what you're going to do to make the country better. It shouldn't be a tough ask of our politicians. And stop with the idiotic nicknames, you're not 5 years old.

Len Webber takes the CPC's new "Boots not Suits" slogan to heart and announces he won't be running for re-election in Calgary Confederation. I guess they'll need to find an empty pair of boots to replace his empty suit.

Another alternate history "what if" just kinda flashed through my brain.
Imagine a political landscape where the CPC went with a reasonable candidate, like Michael Chong, after Harper stepped down instead of Scheer.
Again, a very reasonable and palatable candidate hijacked because he wasn't a fundamentalist nut job.

It took serious effort on their part to ensure O’Toole isn’t the current sitting PM in 2025…

Quoting this post from the Alberta politics thread, since some people don’t read it:

This is a surprising move. I didn't expect him to call it quits and especially not at the very last minute.

Chong instead of Pierre would have been ideal. Another missed opportunity was Rona Ambrose.

Too bad, as I mentioned he is at least a reasonable human being. Probably won't be able to say the same for who replaces him. Still not convinced the seat will not be CPC.

Their base is gonna be so consolidated it could hold up the CN Tower. Think of how dark a shade of blue Alberta will be. Unfortunately that's not gonna help actually win. Whoever is leading their campaign team is just awful at this.

LOL, imagine having your husband go to work every day with his old #### buddy. Wiki also outlines how she's failed at every campaign she has led. Can she add another tic to the post?

How are people pretending that it was anything PP did that caused his turn in political fortune? If Harris was president - hell even if Trump just ignored Canada and focused all his ire on Mexico and Ukraine - we have an easy CPC majority coming our way.
He's certainly handled it poorly and he's always been terribly unlikable as a human being but it's blindingly obvious what the actual cause of all this was.

I think 50% is just Trudeau stepping down. Not directly Poilievre‘s fault, but he sure built his campaign around Trudeau.

This election will be over before Manitoba begins counting votes. Eastern Canada will make certain the Liberals have a majority. It might end faster than Trudeau's first election.

What a ridiculous system where the ruling party decides both the timing of an election and the length of the campaign.

I’ve referred to him as PP’s Playhouse. The child like ads just cement this. I guess it plays well with the crowd that fly flags expressing their unrequited love for Trudeau.

100% disagree. Trudeau was always going to step down, it was built into the campaign strategy and the polls showing CPC majorities. The whole "Just like Justin" thing is obnoxious but it would lilely have worked fine if not for tariffs.
If there's a reason to call this their fault, it's not the campaign strategy. The biggest mistake the CPC and PP made was defining themselves too early, which leaves you vulnerable to a major shift in the political landscape like the tariffs and annexation threat, which made the concerns and priorities they defined themselves by seem trivial by comparison. A similar thing happened in the USA in 08 when McCain predicted, and tried to create, a foreign policy based debate and then the global financial crisis happened. But here it's even worse because of the short runway to campaign and your opponent's ability to time election day. I'm sure Harris would have loved it if they could have held theirs a few months sooner (not that it probably would have mattered).
I don't think there was much the CPC could have realistically done differently here either to prevent this downfall. With a more centrist candidate the damage might have been lessened but given what Trump did and how well Trudeau handled it, the swing seems like it was inevitable, to me.

I think PP probably would have won the next election with Trump, but there is no way he was ever going to reach the heights the polls were showing. And I do think a 30 day campaign with PP repeating simplistic three word slogans would wear pretty thin on Canadians, and he'd be very lucky to have squeeked by with a majority. So I definitely think him and his campaigning style would be responsible for some percent of his drops from the polling. Most rational Canadians just don't respond positively to that stuff.

They could always change their message, they just refuse too. This is exactly who the CPC are
