After 50 games the red snake has attained a 25-18-7 record, which puts it at an identical point total to the purple snake after 50 games (also on January 31). The 2014-15 team had a different makeup to get to the 50 point total with a record of 27-20-3. Both snakes are 1.537 points below the black line.

The red snake has spent the last 15 games below the black line and 26 of 27. They could be back above the black line as soon as the completion of game 52, if they win the next two games. The purple snake will only spend 14 of the remaining games above the black line the rest of the way and didn't hit 96 points until game #81.

A record of 19-12-1 (60.9% / 99.9 point pace) would have it end at 96 points. The red snake is currently on pace for 93 points.

After that one tough stretch looks like they have been maintaining about a 96pt pace for the last 20 games or so.

The thing I find most impressive about the Flames this year is their consistency. Outside of the first stretch of games, they really have not had a big slide.

Was just curious, if Calgary makes it would the preference be Vegas, Edmonton or Winnipeg in round 1 for Flames fans? With LA slipping, Calgary is only 1 point out of 3rd in the Pacific.

Honestly, doesn't matter for me. If I had to choose, then I'd choose Edmonton for the fun of a BOA. Making the playoffs this year is just a bonus on the entire reshaping of the roster and emphasis on youth and drafting. If they get in and are competitive then the year is a success to me.

I'd love for it to be the Oilers. Flames would have no expectations to actually win it but the younger players would gain experience with the rivalry as it should be and maybe some of them take the loss as a big learning step, or we even win and it's that much sweeter. It wouldn't be like last time where many had very high expectations of the team.

I would choose WPG, not just because of the Jets, but because the Flames would then be in the Central path, and they play the Central better than they play the Pacific. Especially VGS and EDM, who both have their number.

However, knocking off EDM in round 1 would be the premiere timeline.

I think the Flames with Wolf in net match up very well against the Oilers. We're 1-1 this season, outscoring 6-5 over both games. In the win, they scored 3 unanswered before an EN goal, after going down by 1 goal 1:16 into the game. In the loss, the Oil scored a late PP goal on an iffy call and then got the EN. They were also up by 1 0:20 in and up by 2 8:00 in.

And both games they faced Vladar, they have yet to see Wolf.

My location record projection at the end of last night has the Flames at 90.8 points and the Canucks at 90.6. So these two teams look like they'll be neck and neck.

Like the U.S. election night with 55% of polls reporting...I will call that the theory of the snake will prove true again this season. Any team getting to 96 points will make the playoffs. Hail to the snake.

Murray must love this. Saving $18MM in salary, fans finding excitement in the perpetual battle for 16th place and no drop in attendance from last year. New arena being built on government dime and might even get a couple extra million from a first round playoff exit.

In the last 18 games the Flames have gone 7-7-4, which is only an 82 point pace. Their record now stands at 32-25-11, good for 75 points. The red snake is on pace for 90 points. It is 4.610 points below the black line and 6 points below the purple snake. The purple snake, which ended with 97 points, crossed over 75 points in game 65. The red snake needs to go 10-3-1 (123 point pace) in the remaining 14 games to reach 96 points at the season's end.

Last year, Caps got in with 91. The year before that Panthers got in with 92. Maybe this year, the 2nd West WC can gain an entry with a low 90s points total.
