I get the impression everyone thinks the seller is a bit of a maniac. Regardless of what you think jayswin did.

You think? That's not very definitive. I want definitive, not a maybe. Why are you asking if I'm available before 4 if you haven't even figured out your day yet?

This is like my wife making plans with our friends. They'll have a three day back and forth. "Oh 7 may work if that works for you but we'll have to let you know as we need to see how our day goes, but we obviously understand you would like to know a time so we'll say 7 but only if that works for you otherwise we might prefer 7:30 but 7 may be fine, and where do you want to go, we're good with where ever but only a place that you're good with" "oh hey ya so about our plans, was it Saturday or Friday you wanted to get together........." 5 days later. "So.... what's the plan?"

Me: "Free to get to get together this Saturday? 7pm, our place?"
Them: "Sure, see you then"
So did you find a new buyer then?

Yeah I've told buyers that I've had no-shows and they always act surprised that people are scum like that.

I had this exact conversation with the wife yesterday as we had a dining room table for free (the person came and got it but was an hr late )

It amazed me that people would do two things

1. Say you were coming to get something and just not show up . Especially when it’s just a text or email to say “I’ve changed my mind”

2. Showing up and the seller has sold to someone else and not messaged the other buyer that it’s no longer available/ gone

The fact these two groups of people exist hurts my soul

My partner is guilty of this sometimes. She'll be talking my ear off the whole time or on her phone and I just want to watch my boy's moves on the pitch and see the joy he gets from playing.

And yeah, everyone needs to be bored more. It's crazy that people can't exist with themselves for more than a couple minutes without pulliing their phones out. I'm guilty of this at time too, but do my best to be aware of it.

My wife and I definitely have agreed we never watch our kids play hockey sitting together. I'll say "WTF are you doing with that pass" under my breathe and she will get all mad at me but then turn around and be the one to make him cry on the way home when I choose to never say anything on the ride home to them.

I try to solve this by not giving my exact address at first. I give the neighbourhood, which should be sufficient for rough planning or deciding if it’s too far for them to bother. Then if they say they’d like to come and pick up the item, I’ll provide them the actual street address. Then in the meantime if another potential buyer has swooped in, nobody is too upset.

But that’s difference / fine since they haven’t said “deal”

But if know people who have agreed to the deal , shown up , and the sellers tells them “someone else came first”

My brain can’t comprehend that. I would be tempted to throw a rock through their windows

I do have enough decency to tell them it's been sold.

I haven't tried selling anything in at least a decade. No way am I dealing with people like jayswin. Even when he's the best case scenario you get.

Yeah that would suck and isn’t a decent thing to do. In my case, there is no implied “deal” until I have given my address and am expecting the person to be arriving imminently. I wouldn’t sell it to somebody else at that point.

I have always known I have an unhealthy obsession with hockey, both playing and watching. When my kid was 6 and out on the ice I could feel myself turning into "that guy". An older kid was intentionally shooting pucks at the pucks the littler guys were trying to stickhandle with. It wasn't hard or off the ice or anything, but it was messing with them.

I wanted to straight go out on the ice and f-start his head like a lawnmower.

It wasn't even a game.

My child (thankfully?) lost interest in hockey and started doing other sports IDGAF about so it's way easier to watch and laugh at the over-intense parents freaking out.

If people took the gear grinding thread seriously you'd never leave your house for fear of anything.
