I always thought it was super amazing that a trading post which used to sell beaver pelts turned into a nationwide department store.
Definitely lots of Canadian history with the brand, including involvement with the clothing for Team Canada at the Olympics.
The Bay's 5 stripes pattern is so recognizable.
Kind of sad, actually.

Hm will maybe buy a suit if it's a good enough deal.

I went through the Bay at Market Mall on Sunday, seeing if things were starting to be put on sale, and it was not great. Store seemed like even more of a mess then usual, and was not able to find a single deal that was not what you usually see in there.

I wonder if it will be the typical liquidation with 10% off or so on the early days. If they don't reach at least Bay Day discounts on day one, it's gonna be a long liquidation.
I do need some new bathroom towels...

It really is a shame about the Bay. I always enjoy walking through the old location downtown and imagining the hustle and bustle of a different era. Even that "flagship" location has been in a slow decline for years, with many of the floors closed off. I hope that the future is kind to the old gal.
That being said, I can't remember the last time I bought anything from the Bay. I have casually poked around in menswear, housewares, etc. and just found it to be extremely expensive. And not in a "let's check Amazon and see if I can save 10%" kind of way, but on a totally different scale. And it wasn't as if others were snapping it all up either. I often wondered how much longer they could sustain themselves for, and now we know.

I was at MarketMall Bay on Sunday and bought 6 bath towels! Glockenstein is amazing. Regular $40 and after all the discounts they were $15 each. Not much left though..
hmm the last time i bought something from the Bay was the same bath towels about 10 years ago...

I used to goto the Downtown Bay every weekend. Went for dim sum in Chinatown and then walked 5 blocks to it.
The 6th floor with toys and cafeteria was the best floor ever! Not sure if you guys remember but they used to sell bulk candy on the main floor and they had some weird hotdog place on the 2nd floor in the mens wear. lol

Went to the downtown location yesterday to use up the last of a gift card before all that’s left is XXL stuff and suits. Not much worth going for clearance wise yet.

I’m a small and there is never a small anywhere ever.
I think it was Chicago Franks. Good hot dogs. Also, why do hot dogs in the USA better than here. I was being hosted in a Box at Yost arena for my dad at Michigan and they had prime rib. I went and bought two hot dogs and brought them back and they were deeply insulted. Way better than our crappy juicy jumbos or the Costco abortions.

Chicago Franks was the tits. In my limited time working downtown back in the day. A couple of dogs from Chicago Franks was a staple. RIP the bay. Where are all the fragrance companies going to sell their stinky wares now?

Have you not been to Shoppers Drug Mart recently? Half the store is fragrances now.

The Bay still has the cash registers and POS systems from the 80's. It's dad, but not surprising as they never seemed to evolve. 90% of the staff were Seniors who worked there to get a discount/get out of the house it seemed.

lol the market mall one if you go upstairs makes it feel like a mouse trap.
The up escalator works but the down one doesn't. The elevator is broken. The washrooms are out of service and you have to come down a set of dingy stairs that leads you out to the parking lot... lol

I think this is really sad news.
First Woodwards, then Easton’s, Sears and now The Bay.
I was at Southcentre on Saturday. Lots of towels on sale including their high end Hotels brand.

I don’t get perfume. Half the store of prime real estate for that crap. I’d rather smell hot dog water or fart than your gross perfume. At least they have character. People get bitchy about vaping while people wander around with their crappy perfume or cologne. It’s a thousand times worse than vape.
