Golf course also have great sight lines.

See, but his supporters also subscribe to politics = sports fandom, so they just see that as you admitting that he's great. It's like if Red Sox fans were cheering for Aaron Judge to no longer be playing baseball. They see it as the same thing, "of course you'd say that because he's owning you so much".

I appreciated this perspective

Quote:
When I wrote my book The Next Civil War in the late 2010s, the U.S. had recently published its manual on counterinsurgency, Joint Publication 3-24, or JP 3-24. On the surface, it was a guide to strategies for occupying and pacifying countries. Underneath, it was a big flashing sign to its own military leadership: do not do this ever again. The process of ending a counterinsurgency involves reconfiguring the basis of society from the ground up, a process which a military force, any military force, is incapable of undertaking.

There is no deal that’s worth it for me. None. Not even that.

It really is amazing how one childish narcissistic assclown can cause this much global chaos and uncertainty. God, I hate this timeline.

I think a lot of people could have been talked into a future North American Union or something similar pre initial Trump election. But annexation or subsumption into the United States as just another state is not something that will not ever be palatable. A large portion of canadian identity is built around being "not the USA" or "not american". Doubly so now, but all the way back to the foundation of canada, supported by droves of loyalists who moved their families from the colonies into ontario during/after the revolution.

It depends on what you mean when you say republicans.

For MAGA, they want some sort of Saudi Arabia like regime with death squads executing gays and non believers. They're the American Taliban. For this group, there is no line. They'll burn books, kill non whites, wage war, etc and happily do it.

For other republicans, I think they're aiming for more of a Russian style oligarchy where the rich own society and the rest fight for scraps. As long as the rich get richer, this group has no line. Even destroying the American economy isn't all that bad if it means they own the pile of ashes at the end.

Any remaining dissidents will be taken care of as soon as the purge is nearly complete.

I mean, the Democrats barely did anything and held stupid ping pong signs, why does anyone think disapproving Republicans will do anything when it just makes them targets?

Biden did some good things while in office, but him letting his own ego basically get in the way of a meaningful primary and the subsequent plunge into fascism is going to be a huge stain on his legacy.

On the one hand, it's all true that Biden completely ####ed them over, and the party did nothing to save the situation. On the other hand, colored me completely unconvinced even a great Dem candidate would have won. I guess I'm mostly tired of excusing Americans. Trump would not get over 25% in any other Western country. The fact he would have gotten 45% minimum even against an elite Dem candidate says it all.

I always ask myself how many Canadians would vote for Don Cherry?

Don Cherry is the Cdn Donald Trump. Except he actually was good at a couple things once upon a time.

Prior to Biden dropping out I had a number of friends and family who were Trump 2016/2020 tell me they couldn’t do it again with how Biden was actually turning things around. As soon as it became a colored woman they all flipped or didn’t vote at all for President. Not saying it was right, but it was a terrible moment in history to go off the board and not find a white dude to run against Trump. It’s still America after all.

More registered voters didn’t vote than voted for either candidate. There was plenty there for the Democratic Party to get to the polls, they just picked the right person at the wrong time.

But then you voted for the UCP, so...must be one hell of a local MLA you've got to toss them under the bus like that.
