And no Marner isn’t playing wing because Toronto is deep at C. He always was a winger.

I said, he can play center but you aren't going to play a top line player down the line up just because. I guess I should just believe you over Craig Berube right??

Word is Marner played some center in junior but not regularly. His dad pushed him for to be listed as a center/wing in his draft year, and in his D+1 year he started at center but struggled and was put back on the wing.

He is a winger. He has never played center. You can check all his scouting reports from junior.
Not sure why you have to make things personal and be disrespectful.

I'm well aware of Marners history. But thank you, I'm citing current interview responses from the current head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs who believes Marner can play center if needed.
Perhaps the tone you're receiving is due toyour posting behavior and how you're conveying opinions but instead posting as your opinion is factual.
Everyone is wrong except Paulie. And, you're a broken record. Which is annoying. You could have saved everyone a metric ton of wasted energy is you just stuck to your OG post about your thoughts on Dylan Cozens instead of spamming ad nauseum the same post over and over and over.

Well, to be fair, just because Berube believes Marner can play center, doesn't mean he can. He hasn't played center at all in the NHL; you would think if he could, someone would have tried him there, especially when Matthews or Tavares has been unavailable.

A couple pages back you had a gm just say the biggest mistakes are made on Trade deadline and July 1st.
Nashville is a great example. They won July 1st but they aren’t winning hockey games.

I usually agree but the Flames don't want to build the normal way.
Given this org's plan of some sort of retool but without tanking, and trying to make the playoffs despite knowing they're not really a contender but also trying to get younger but not willing to sell on vets, I think they basically have to find superstars via trades and free agency.
FWIW I think they're going to get shut out in UFA a couple more times, perhaps bottom out and realize against their will oh we do actually have to do this the hard way.
If you play in NYC, you can do a 1 year rebuild and then just sign the best 28 year old on the market. But in Calgary nah

Now that the dust has settled from the trade deadline.
Who are the top offer sheet candidates this summer the flames could be looking at?
Is there any college free agents the flames could have interest in? Sandman looking for you on the college free agents, any gems in there?

That is the path we are most likely headed down. For all the we can’t waste Wolf, well trying to retool is wasting Wolf. Superstars are rarely traded especially the ones we need down the middle.
They tried this approach every year with Iggy and Kipper and face planted outside of 1 year.
Even Carolina trading for a star is finding out that’s it’s hard. They have had a winning team for years who needs stars to take them to the next level and it seems like no one wants to play there.

With Wolf, how theyre deciding to avoid bottoming out, our roster and our prospect pool we pretty much need to be in on every reasonably aged star forward, regardless in they're a winder or center. Marner included.
Wolf is ready to go now and we have no stars forwards in the system.

Wolf isn’t 50. He still has a lot of years ahead of him.

Wolf's just about 24. We have a 10 year window with him if he's healthy.
Unless your getting a prospect like Bedard or celebrini it isually takes 3-5 years after drafting them to get into the NHL and make some type of impact.
Maybe we already have a Pastranak in the system and he'll pop out soon. But then it still helps to have signed a Marner.

McKenna is probably a day 1 player and those goes make an impact right away.
But again it’s still a team with all wingers no elite #1C.
They really screwed it up in 2022 when Johnny and Matthew left. But as you saw in the presser we don’t say the R word in calgary.

I'd offer sheet Mavrik Bourque this summer.

If he can't stay in Toronto he's going somewhere warm where he can play and be left alone. There is zero chance he comes here even if when open the bank for him. California or Florida for example.

Even the talk about Rantanen another winger. Why chase him? He’s even older than Marner.
That could be 3 contracts you are stuck with.
They are better looking to find a reverse Hamilton deal.

8-9 usually.
Edit: damnit, this is the Trade & Spec thread. Closing old tabs on the phone now. This time it’s for sure see you in June.

Florida has an ass ton of cap space in the off season and the cap is expected to continue to rise, my bet is Marner ends up there.

Florida has 17.5M in space. I think Bennett is the only big name they have to sign.
Depends on what Marner wants, does he use Rantanen as a comp?
Also, another sick thought is Toronto targeting Bennett if they lose Marner.
