Every time the Flames lose a game for the next 10 years, some fans will complain that the Flames never bottomed out.

Man I know there's still 15 minutes left, but Conroy talked often this season about weaponizing the team's cap space and acting as a middle man to help other teams facilitate trades and that really has not materialized in a way this season.
And with the cap going up significantly the next few years now, it feels like the value of doing that in future years will go down.
Pretty disappointing.

Teams haven't needed it either though.
The only major trade with third party salary was the first Rantanen trade and that was really just Chicago dumping Hall.
Contenders that made moves all got a bunch of LTIR space to work with

I’m asking you to cut it out and drop it, after calling me dumb in a thinly veiled descriptor. You are very wrong and I’m just asking not to be insulted further since you don’t seem to be in a place to control yourself.

I think people are frustrated the Flames are doing exactly what they have said they would do all year and are going to be in a position where it’s difficult to find 3 (or more) star players that you need to compete over the next few years.
This year we didn’t acquire a top prospect who could be this star OR finish bottom 5 to draft them .
Look at the teams rosters who are going for the cup. The Flames are 4 or 5 pieces away . Late 1sts aren’t going to get those players - or best case they do and they are in the NHL in 4 or 5 years
I have a hard time seeing how they get much better next year or the year after looking at the pipeline of prospects vs aging veterans . I also don’t see them getting substantially worse . So we will still have the problem of how to get stars into this lineup
The Flames have made a decision about what they want to do and we’re very open about it all year . People hoped the deadline would show a deviation from it because they dont believe the current path forward ends in success
|
WHo is going for a Cup this year and who are their 3 star players? My list would be
Winnipeg - Connor (17th overall), Morrisey (13th overall) and Hellebuyck (150th overall)
Washington - Ovechkin (1st overall), Strome (4th overall) and Thompson (undrafted)
Dallas (before today) - Robertson (39th overall), Johnston (23rd overall), Hintz maybe (49th overall)
Tampa - Kucherov (58th overall), Hagel (159th overall), Point (79th overall)
Vegas - Stone (178th overall), Eichel (2nd overall), Theodore (26th overall)
Florida - Barkov (3rd overall), Tkachuk (6th overall), Reinhart (2nd overall).
The only team that seems to follow this "you can only get good players at the top of the draft" appears to be Florida.

There have been rumours for quite a while that flames set bar to high for weaponizing cap space

What is Pittsburgh doing as well? Keeping Rakell... Caps doing nothing as well. Weird.

I'm with most in that it's a bit of a disappointment there wasn't any significant action though given what we've heard from a direction standpoint, perhaps inactivity was the best outcome.
I wonder if the team/players actually feel rejuvenated by not having significant moves even if we clamor for changes

Here's my mindset about the GIF's. Could he be completely lying and we're all suckers for falling for it? Yes.
Is it exciting anyways and creates a lot of conversation and speculation, which makes this more interesting? Yes.
Are there a bunch of things in life that are big scams that make us happy so we do it anyways? For sure.
It's not hurting anyone, we all get joy out of it. Let's not over think it.

That's what I've heard as well, but if you are setting that bar too high, you've set it at the wrong spot.
Anyway, I am glad that the Flames haven't added so far.

I get the sentiment, but since march there has only been one deal where a third party retained salary, and that was a deal the Oilers made.

Told there could be a deal in the pipeline here shortly, still talking compensation.
Wouldn't expect anything crazy.

I also don't get the impression from Royle9 or the others that the Flames were doing anything other than listening to calls on Rasmus. I just think they should have been making the calls this year and actively negotiating with other teams with the goal of trying to get a deal completed.
