Would Kadri, NJs 1st, and Porier be enough for an unsigned Rantanen?
I'd do it just to get rid of Kadri's contract and have a better shot of making playoffs this year. Don't know if Carolina would, though.

Still rumours in most of these trades but it’s really surprising how many teams are suddenly willing to move what many would have considered untouchable prospects/young players in these trades. If all the rumours come to fruition… Ritchie, Clarke, Stankoven, Pterka, and Knight will all have been traded by today. That’s pretty crazy. The flames were the biggest sellers last year and no one was offering prospects/young players of that calibre.
It is too bad in some ways, the flames were not sellers in a rare market where teams are selling 1st round picks in 2026 plus their top prospects/young players. I understand the decision to go for a playoff spot given where the flames are at in the standings… it’s more saying this would have been a convenient year to be in a position to draft high and trade pieces for big returns.

Would think LA is feeling the pressure to make a big move here. If they are out on Rantanen, who could they target to give them an offensive boost against Oilers? They have highly valuable pieces (Clarke, Greentree, first round picks) that they could offer up.

I think prospects are a bit less important with the cap going up. Don't need those cheap elc as much (for now)

If you're hoping for Craig to sell off a bunch of vets and tear it down to the studs, then yes you're in for a disappointing deadline day. The team is still firmly in a wildcard spot and remains "competitive" for the time being, its just not going to happen.
Now, my personal opinion on this is also that of bleh. This team isn't good enough to win, the west is loading up across the board for a big push and were just hoping to limp in and "see what happens" and I too wish we would plan for the future instead.
With that out of the way I'll share what I'm hearing so far, its early and its busy so updates will be sporadic most likely:
Andersson's name is the hottest commodity right now, but will Craig move him? Value leading up to today just wasn't there, will a team step up with an offer that gets Craig to bite?
Kadri isn't going anywhere, its been said numerous times so I wont beat the dead horse but he wants to be in Canada, now more than ever and is committed to this team long term. He wants to win a cup with Calgary.
Miro likely moves today, but not for much.
Vladar was told he's staying put apparently.
Flames remain interested in that young center with term and a punishing d-man preferably to grow with the team
Don't see any market in the rentals, especially given the prices so far.
Flames have no interest in trading premium picks, unless premium assets are returned.
Flames did inquire on Rantanen, though there's speculation he wont commit to anyone long term right now.
I'll add there's a few surprising names out there, younger guys who need a change of scenery.
Flames are exploring these scenarios closely.

Thanks for the update, a bit disappointing that Conroy isn't willing to capitalize on the Sellers market but such is life. Still hope we are able to land some younger players with skill to help the future.

This team isn't going to be competitive in the playoffs. Not when they'll go up against Dallas or Vegas in the first round.
This is just short sighted but I guess it's been the plan all along.

Ah man, hopefully one of the playoff teams blinks and pays up for Andersson. Was quite happy to go into the summer/draft and deal with it then, but this market is HOT for sellers. People can say it'll be the same come the summertime but you never truly know.
Sure would be nice for the Flames to get a monster return for at least one of the big 6 at this deadline.

I think we definitely could get a haul given the trading going on.

IMO There will be no weaponizing cap space today. That money will be saved for and spent in free agency. I genuinely believe that’s always been the plan.

Oh man if this team sees itself as “competitive” that is certainly not ideal. That is not the mindset I would want our GM to be in right now.

Toronto is really zeroed on him too. That is my bet on Kunin.

To me it would be just as short sighted to trade away players just because you can regardless of a poor return. No one is on an expiring contract, the Flames are playing poker knowing they'll be holding a hot hand in 365 days. If they start just giving guys away it does nothing for them long run. If they stand pat, they give Zary, Coronato and Wolf their first taste of meaningful hockey.

Interesting. Thanks Diss. Hope Conroy’s at least makes Treliving have to pay a higher price for him.
