As usual you are missing the point...before the 04 run the fan base was dwindling and almost non existent. After the cap they kept Iggy and Kipper and won....Zero playoff rounds was it?

Even Peter Maher says the 04 run saved the franchise...argue with me all you want but only a fool would argue Flames with Pete. The "waste of 8 days they have zero chance" logic would have ended the Flames. Trust me nobody thought the 04 Flames were beating Vancouver let alone Detroit.

I understand the optimism, and I don't want to lose on purpose. But people comparing this team to 04 is not really realistic. Much different league and we had a guy called Jarome Iginla.

Think it’s a combination of so many teams within range of a playoff spot that they don’t want to sell as well as teams that are at the bottom of the league not wanting to sell anything for picks/prospects either because they have nothing to sell or because they want NHLers back in trade.

A retained Coleman or Andersson brings an absolute haul. Only other teams do that. In a cap world, the Flames should be acquiring top prospects using their cap space with their aging vets while they are still relevant. The Isles just did it with Nelson, Ritchie is going to be a stud.
