Haven't the Wranglers gone something like 1-11 since the end of January? Not many legitimate options left down there for anything.

Hope Conroy doesn’t do it. I just don’t know that I’ve ever seen value out of acquiring a depth player for a 4th round or later pick, in 25 years of being a diehard fan. Would be happy to be proven wrong.
|
I don't think too many people though it getting Neimenen, Nilson and Simon as bottom 6 forwards, in 2004 was going to move the needle, nevermind the Flames were far from a lock from the trade deadline on, to make the playoffs.
Nilson was for a second, Neimenen was for Jason Morgan and a 7th round pick.
Simon was for McLennan (3rd string goalie) and Betts.
Those are the types of depth moves the Flames could use this year too
Maybe not three player but something to bolster a lineup that has punched above its weight class.

Obviously Conroy must feel like he prefers someone with more experience if they do happen to make the playoffs and that the younger guys stay down and get more minutes. It's really not the big deal you're making it out to be.

Which NHL proven player are we going to call up from our farm team?

We don’t need a proven NHL player. This team is going to be swept handily in round 1 if they even make it. It’s all about building for the future but I guess that’s why Canadian teams stink. Fans and ownership can’t stomach a few painful years.

I don't mind adding if it's a Brandt Clarke for example. Something that helps long term. Like Vancouver using a surplus 1st from the Horvat trade to add Hronek ended up being a really good move for them.

Clarke is not a small add - it would rip the young heart out of this team to get him.
LAK would trade him why?

That surplus 1st was used by Detroit to draft one of the top d prospects in the world in Sandin Pellikka too

A 4th and or 5th round pick to get this team some NHL depth to help get a developing team a better chance to make the playoffs and given young players a crash course in development, is hardly giving up on "building for the future".The confidence and the experience a Zary, Coronato and others will get from making the playoffs will make them better players in the future.

Because that low draft pick is going to completely screw up the plan.
You don't think they need another proven player, but Conroy does. Chances are the Flames would lose but they would still want to try to win. It's not like upsets don't happen.

Many players haven’t made the playoffs have been just fine to turn it on when they do.
Getting dummied in round 1 sounds like a great experience for them.
