It’s rough. I tell myself I stay here in Florida because of my friends, and because I basically know what to expect around here. But it’s getting hard.
Many of my friends have turned MAGA, and when I got back into rock singing I was shocked at how many in that community here are MAGAs. I had a lot of them friended on FB so I got to see the worst of it.
So many of the venues here are full of anti vaxxers who just don’t care. It has taken the joy away.
Many of my neighbors have moved to upstate South Carolina because the Greenville area is supposed to be great or whatever, but it’s still very red. Apparently one of the first questions they ask up there is what church you belong to. They will eventually figure out I’m an atheist who doesn’t eat animal products. No matter how quiet you are about these things, all kinds of nastiness ensues when you are “found out.”
So today I have to go back to work for a few hours. I wonder how many remorseful Trumpers I’ll talk to today. My job involves Medicaid/Medicare benefits .
Woah....wait....what?? Hahaha! Thats awesome!

Hitler Defeated After Opposition Party Holds Up Tiny Signs On Paddles
Quote:
In a shocking turn of events, Hitler was defeated and the Nazi regime overthrown after the opposition party in Germany held up little paddles with tiny signs on them.
The Führer was giving a speech in the Reichstag when suddenly, opposing politicians began holding up miniature signs attached to what appeared to be tiny ping-pong paddles. Within minutes, Hitler had been deposed and the Nazi regime collapsed.
"We did it! I knew the little signs would work," said opposition leader Hagan Schulz. "No one can withstand little paddles that say 'False' on them. The world is saved!"
The weird cult of Trump is obviously a big part of the problem. The bigger problem is his administration has shown that the checks, balances, and institutional norms that are supposed to restrain a president are cobwebs that can swept away by anyone who has contempt for them. Which means the path is clear for any other wannabe demagogues.
On the global front, Trump has proven that the American system can now throw up strongman leaders who see international affairs in strictly transactional terms. Going forward, other states can no longer assume they’ll be dealing with an America restrained (even imperfectly) by the rule of law, multilateralism, and liberal traditions.
There’s no putting the genie back in the bottle.
The ol' Sulla problem. I have been calling Trump Sulla since round 1 of this, I think it's accurate. We will see Caesar in a decade or so- a political rival's son? Does Mitt Romney have any political kids?
Trump speaking right now, still saying the same kind of stuff. "We don't need anything from Canada, we don't need their cars or their lumber or their energy, we have more than anyone", etc etc. So he's going to dispense with environmental protections preventing forestry in... places? So that they can produce more lumber.
OK cool good luck with that. Once it is more economical to buy that locally produced lumber I'm sure the free market will oblige you.
God, I cannot wait for this man to die.
