Exactly. Fredric seemed to have a decent year last year but he looks baaad this year. At 27 he is what he is and it really looks like his meh offensive output of 40 points last year was an outlier. I guess a competent grunt helps them, but he's not exactly changing the fortunes of a team that can't keep a puck out of the net or find any secondary scoring.
Jones is just a straight up scrub and probably the only player they can acquire now with no capital to move in exchange for warm bodies. If a player like that is seeing the ice on a contender you have huge problems. It is truly crazy how much the Oilers suck and can't get out of their own way. A monkey at a wheel could spin his way to a title with Drysaddle and McJesus, yet they still don't get that you need to have good, 200ft talent up and down the roster versus flawed, 1 dimensional players and shoddy goaltending.

I suppose, but unless you're planning to use all 3 of your retention slots this year, I don't see the harm. The market is the market and might as well nab some assets.

I don't watch lots of Bruins hockey but Frederic seems tough to play against, almost an E. Kane type player? Without the scumbaggery off the ice.... Maybe a replacement for Evander? Unfortunately this is an ok pick-up for the no-goods IMO. Not a major splash, and not a d-man though. Kane is still on IR I think, but the no-goods need to make a decision with him.

The retentions on this deal are pretty small dollar-wise. It's still early in the week, and Conroy has lots of cap space to use on deals requiring larger amounts. Not to mention, holding those spots for potential Flames' trades.

I think its embarrassing if they don't address the D and goaltending situation at the deadline. They are basically assuming they can run it back with virtually the same team and no notable improvements all while they have substantial regression to a number of players this season.
If I'm Drysaddle or Connor I'm none too pleased if management doesn't push hard to address the obvious deficiencies with more than scrubs from an awful Bruins team.

Frederic is really struggling this year. Plus a career 5 points in 22 playoff games. Edmonton's depth scoring has fallen off a cliff this year. Unless Frederic has amazing chemistry with McDavid or Draisaitl he's going to have a tough time IMO.

Frederic, if healthy, is a nice addition for the Oilers. However, it does not fill their biggest needs (G and D). They gave up some good tradable assets, which leaves them thin to bolster their blueline. They are for sure riding Skinner and Pickard it seems.

Stay tuned for the inevitable- an article by Spector in the next day or two proclaiming Frederic as the missing piece needed for the Oilers to win the cup.

I like the prospect the Oilers picked up, Petr Hauser, is a right winger and has scored 1 goal the past four seasons. That is No Good.

Depth guys don't really get a lot of runway in Edmonton. Holloway is playing great this season because he's actually getting a chance to play a lot more than he was in Edmonton.

The Bruins wanner maximus the return on Frederic and New Jersey was helpful by giving the Oilers a complete hauser.

If Frederic rebounds, he really makes the Oilers better. Hopefully he won't rebound until he walks as a UFA in the off-season.

They just need to show him the river valley then drive him the 7 hours out to the mountains and he will sign anything to stay.

And an nmc. Everyone has one of those. Except there won’t be 75% retention.

With his injury, it's even less time to build some chemistry with the new team. Since the guy seems to be having an off year, you'd think the chance of a rebound is even smaller. Kind of a weird trade.

I'm pissed off that the Oil got this guy, he's an absolute beauty. They didn't aquire him for his scoring prowess, he's an ideal bottom-6 C/W who will play a shutdown role and provide toughness (he's one of the toughest in the league) and physicality. Excellent pick-up for them, especially with the playoffs coming up.
