There are lots, commenters say the silent part out loud. Commenters are also like 1% of the believers.

Twitter is filled with bots and trolls that don’t reflect reality. Most social media platforms are now littered with them, but Twitter is particularly bad.

Russian influence trying to boost dissenting views. Do it long and consistent enough, and stupid people tend to believe they aren't alone in their idiocy, and end up doing things like electing Donald Trump twice(or Smith, once). It's in Russia's interest to have a separatist in power in Alberta to cause disarray in Canada. Tear down healthcare. Move away from the feds in as many areas as possible. Isolate. All things that weaken us as a country, and the dumb ####s cheer it on.

As much as I despise conspiracies I can't argue against that at all, there is a lot of evidence of Russian interference and this is exactly how you get the uneducated more pissed off and thinking their dopey ideas are widespread.

And sometimes they say it out loud. Like when Smith sympathized with Russian separatists in Ukraine, which echoes some of the standard Kremlin propaganda.
Of course she later backtracked and apologized. But Russia has certainly done a good job at injecting these ideas into the public discourse in the west. They seem loopy and fringe at first, but get gradually normalized. Especially when amplified by politicians.
That's not even addressing the situation in the US. Putin is licking his chops as his long game plays out.

As pointed out by others - those comments aren't real people. X is a cesspool of bots and propaganda.
Glad that Smith/UCP are putting together a response but we're just figuring this out now? We've had a month's warning and everybody else has figured out their plan and is communicating it today. We're just putting it together as if we just heard about tarrifs this morning. Nice.

Fair point. I have deleted my link. I was trying to help fix another user's broken link, but I don't want to send them any clicks. I know that the above comments are general and not personal, but I fully agree.
Smith's comments are in the media and available to anyone who wants to find them on a non-Elon platform.

It's definitely not a conspiracy.

An analysis of over six million tweets and retweets — and where they originate from — has found that Canada is being targeted by Russia to influence public opinion here.
The study by the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy found that huge numbers of tweets and retweets about the war in Ukraine can be traced back to Russia and China, with even more tweets expressing pro-Russian sentiment traced to the United States.

And it's not just Russia, China and India are deep at it too. That we in the western world continue to allow this to knowingly continue is a massive failure, and the results are obvious and successful, which means they will not stop until we destroy ourselves. The reality is a lot of people are just too simple to understand how they are being played, so we need governments to control it. Resist the siren song of the Russian misinformation posters saying that censorship is bad. Sometimes you require it to survive. I know many here will wretch at that point, but I gotta ask, how else do you see this playing out without doing something to stop it, which would necessarily be censorship? We either stop them, or let them install governments that will burn books, as they are in the south. We'll still get censorship, but not in the way that saves us.

Trump has said he doesn't need Canada clear and simple! We're not doing it right away we've given them a heads up and guess what they might not have time to find more power well thats on them. I agree this might be seen as act act of war but it's already started we're in a Trade War that will impact Canadian citizens. Increased prices are going to affect the health and safety of the lowest income Canadians in a negative way.
As a side note I still think we need to have intermittent blackouts. Whats more annoying than no power but unreliable power!

I want to like Ford's tough talk on electricity, but I do feel that we need to be careful. Trump is an autocrat, very unpredictable, and has virtually none of the traditional reservations or democratic guardrails in place anymore. He makes decisions on a whim via executive order.
Not saying to roll over, but I think that extreme measures like cutting off electricity should be approached with extreme caution. I think that would be very provocative (more so than other forms of retaliation) and could justify an irrational response from an autocrat like Trump.

Oh this wasn’t meant to you or your post at all, I was saying that maybe the forum mods should break the ability for anyone to link to twitter. All good man.
