Cooley has also struggled a bit since returning from injury compared to how he was before. Flames will need a dependable backup during this final stretch run...

I think if they could get a second he’d already be gone

Get that flame going, make it a wild week for us fans. Imagine waking up on trade deadline day and these players are gone:

- Andersson
- Coleman
- Kadri
- Mirananov
- Hanley
- Backlund

We would be going into the off season with a new core, bunch of 1st/2nd round picks and atleast 5 years younger as a team.

Not going to happen, but one can wish.
Or we could end up with a bunch of Kenny Agostinos and Ben Hanowskis.

23rd overall pick in his draft year.

This is why we should fire sale the vets before the TDL and get as many 1sts as possible.

If you want studs like that, the draft is the only way you’ll get them for their prime years.

Why would you even type that?

“Hey, maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events, but we just got our asses kicked, pal!“ That’s with the vets.

Just about the only thing the Flames have been doing really well the last few years is drafting.

Covid had a huge impact on why he fell in the draft he missed an entire year.

Sure, but Dallas seems to have lots of players we covet who were all late firsts. Bourque, Stankoven…

We need to give Flames scouts as many at bats as possible as soon as possible.

That’s the only way we’ll get the elite talent Flames are lacking.

Reclamation projects are more risky, and that seems to be what Conroy is searching for.

Drafting is not the only way. You’re using hyperbole. The Flames have the exact same ways any other team in the league has to acquire elite talent. Sure, drafting is likely the best way to go about it but it is not the only way. That’s a false statement.

I’m sure Conroy is searching for more than just reclamation projects. Why would he limit his search?

Kenny and Ben were simply throw ins to make is easier for Calgary to save face.

Neither was ever considered a viable prospect.

Drafting is the only way for the Flames.

Why would a team give us its elite talent? What do we have to offer?

A quantity of good players, draft picks?

The only thing those things get you is other good players, reclamation projects (was elite, don’t know what happened), or picks.

Vegas got Eichel for a steal, but the rumoured offer from Calgary was Tkachuk who is an elite player. Most often elite players in their prime are traded for other elite players in their prime. Relying on BUF to make their usual trade mistakes is not a strategy.

Maybe we can overpay in FA but that creates problems later. Surely we’ve learned our lesson.
