But of course it was never about the fentanyl, which was nothing more than a horses*** excuse to use emergency powers so the Trump administration wouldn’t have to go through Congress to apply tariffs.

Makes you wonder why we’re even bothering to go down there at this point. These a**clowns were never gonna make a deal.

Yes, he was announcing an investment by TSMC in Arizona. He spoke in the Q&A after, but I am not sure anyone even asked him about Canada tariffs initially, he just came out and said it. Later someone asked if there was any room for Canada or Mexico to negotiate, and he said no.

Well that is what he does. And then later he'll pull back and say 'see I won!'

The whole thing is dumb. What is worse is that he's too dumb to even understand what a tariff is, i.e. just a tax on the American people.

Aren't we all glad everyone thought he'd never be President again?

These tariffs were really priced in… no market reaction at all

Yeah, I don't think the markets fully believed he'd go through with them, so not priced in at all. These may be as bad or worse for current US economic conditions as they are for Canada.

Damn there's some serious irony in his "Make America Great Again" slogan. Just uprooting all the principles it was founded upon lol.

Tear down the flag and egg the house.

Is there news or confirmation when the Canadian retaliatory tariffs go into effect? Hard to find info on that other than 'Canada plans to retaliate'.

Still pretty fresh. I'd imagine a press conference a bit later today with retaliation being effective at midnight as well.

I have a crazy couple across the street that put red, white, and blue lights on their house on inauguration day. Previously they had made enemies of their neighbours through nuisance bylaw complaints, and had separate restraining orders against those living on both sides in a thinly veiled attempt at being seen as the victims. Just horrible people. I'd probably still knock on their door if their house was burning down, but I know that many wouldn't.

Sums it up, to be honest.

What are we going to do, throw snowballs? Our only option at this point seems to be begging King Charles to bail us out? Some country this is.

I have a client just down the street from my office who flies both a Canadian and US flag in front of his house in honour of his late wife who was American.

He's been faced with threats and repeated vandalism.

The USA are not our enemy, the Great Orange Buffoon is our enemy. And more and more it appears to be a common one.

I saw on CBC that the government is meeting at some point tonight to decide what the plan will be. They essentially have all the options figured laid out but they need to agree on what plan to implement.
